if you are talking about the indoor fan on the unit and it is a electric heater then yes there is a fan relay that control the fan operation that is common to fail on these units.. it is fairly easy to replace and can be purchased on line at diiferent heating sites... type in goodman heating parts in a search engine and locate the relay you need... if you are talking about the outdoor fan motor then need to check a few things there is a capacitor that helps motor start that could be weak /by the way there is also a capacitor on the indoor unit you want to check to .... it usually is 5-20 microfarads that requires a meter or tester that can check the farads on capacitor... make sure these are good... the outside unit will sometimes not have the fan motor run if the unit is in a defrost cycle but should only stay of for 5-15 minutes at a time and only if it is in a defrost cycle ... hope this helps you out repost if you have anymore questions...
The symptoms seem to be related to the main blower motor and/or it's capacitor. Turn the system off for a couple of minutes and then turn just the fan on while the thermostats heat setting is in the off position. If the lights still dim then replace the motor and capacitor. The clicking noise is the fan relay.
Are you referring to the fan on the external mechanism, or the internal air handling fan?
The external fan is not controlled by the internal thermostat. it is controlled by the thermos-witch of the compressor. The external fan may or may not run when the motor is operating. it depend totally on the temperature of teh compressor, and not the internal thermostat.
It the internal air handling fan is running continuously,it may be a a problem with the fan setting. check if the fan is set to 'ON' instead of 'AUTO', and correct it.
Incidentally the fan operation I described, is for modern, energy efficient heat systems. This is a energy saving design incorporated in all heating systems including automobile radiator fans.
Ok, If you don't have a heat pump, you should not be hearing anything from the outside unit. I assume you have electric heat. I feel strongly that you have a bad fan motor capacitor. This is what sends a jolt of power to start the fan motor. Good luck and have a great day.
If you are not getting any codes from the board, then the furnace is not getting a call for heat from the thermostat. A wire may have come off, the thermostat not properly wired, or a break in the stat wire. On a call for heat, you should have 24vac between W and C on the circuit board. This will let you know if you are getting a call for heat all the way back to the furnace.
Yes. The defrost cycle of a heat pump is actually turning on your airconditioning to heat up the condenser to thaw it out. During this cycle your electric strip heaters "should" be adequate enough to compensate for the a/c being on. At about 30 - 34 degrees outdoor temp there is not enough heat in the air to to adequately heat your home with the heat pump only. Some technitions will use an outdoor thermostat to turn off the heat pump when it is under 34 degrees outside. If you are to cold when its under 34 degrees intall more electric strip heaters.. But if you do this your electric bill may go up significantly.
