Question about Steamist Steam Bath 4.5/6 KW Unit SM46

Open Question

Steamist 46 generator does not produce steam; leaks water

Unit is about 6 yrs. old. After 10 minutes, unit is not producing steam. We turn unit off, and water pours out the safety valve, flooding the floor. What is the problem? We have 2 units--one in each bathroom--both are doing the same thing. SHould the unit produce steam in 10 minutes?

The heating elements had burned up in the unit therefor creating a dead short on that circuit. Main breakers on homes and buildings are VERY sensitive and will sometimes trip before the smaller branch cicuit breakers will . So the popping you heard was the heating elements breaking down inside the unit it can be some what noisy.

SOURCE: SM-79 turns on normally and

Hi Russell.
I am going to suggest contacting Steamist since they are the experts in this product.
http://www.steamist.com/contact.htm

My understanding is Steamist has 5 year parts warranty, and 3 year labor warranty, which is good warranty.
It seems you have passed the warranty period, and 16 years is a good run for any type device.

The contact e-mails includes 'literature' so you can order a manual, 'troubleshoot' so can get directions from the folks who make the product, and email for sales manager.
I would also inquire about authorized service center, and ask what is likelihood of getting long-term repair vrs buying another unit.

Also take advantage of fixya phone service.
For a price, expert speaks with you over phone while you work on any do-it-yourself project.
Fixya is always less expensive than a service call.

I have a steamist lt90 that we recently installed. It stays on for about 5 minutes then trips the breaker. It was installed using #10 wire and a 30 am breaker. Any ideas?

!!!!!First look on data plate see what is the rated amperes and kW . Make sure what code is for steam generators.

Some steam generators do not recommend GFI circuits to avoid nuisance tripping.

If you can us GFI in circuit breaker you may need two hots a ground and a neutral.

As a rule
30 amps = #10 wire
40amps = #8 wire and
50amps = # 6.

Generators normally are 240vts the two hot wires connect to # 1 and #2 wires coming from unit.

Lg steam washer 2yo 3 yrs old . Refresh cycle produces bribble of water rather than steam and leaves clothes wet

The steamer unit may be overfilling. Check the water valve and see if it leaking. If it's ok, you will need to replace the steamer unit. Good luck

What size breaker does the sm-11 require 2-30amp or 2-60 amp?

You will need the 2-60A breakers. 11kw is 11,000 watts. Watts = voltage X Current (amperes) If we take this formula and change it around to calculate amperes it is like this. Amperes = watts / volts amperes = 11000 watts / 240 volts This is 45.8 amperes or let us say 46 amperes. The closest breaker that you have would be a 50 amp breaker 2 pole of course . 2 - 50. If you cannot get a 2 - 50 then a 2-60 is fine. I would run with a #6 copper wire, I would check with local code to verify the wire size in your area. Make sure that the unit is grounded as well. Minimum of a #10 wire, I would also check local codes as well. Enjoy the steam!

Do I need to install a water softner before installing sm-79

you should not have to, but if the steamist is not gernerating the right amount of steam then you should put a sofftner on. you will be able to tell because it might have a hard time producing steam, but don't jump the gun right away.
