If the laptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles and will lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% and gradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR The battery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the battery drops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to an unacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced. Rechargeable batteries will fail if stored in a discharged state for long periods.
Laptop batteries vary from laptop to laptop. i suggest you Google the Internet for a battery for your model laptop.

Battery not functioning

This can be a lot of things. One of the things is the jack to the power unit can get damaged. The plug can also get damaged. When you plug it in the light on the computer should show that it is plugged in. If there is no light on the computer, you may need a meter to test the power cable to the computer. IT should show 19 volts. You may want to gently wiggle the point of connection to the laptop when the plug is inserted into the jack. If that does not tell you anything about the problem, the issue may be the battery. IF you take it out often or have dropped the computer or the battery, the socket that plugs into the battery may be damaged. The battery could also be bad.

Photo transfer from camera to LAPTOP

The best way to transfer pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo management program such as Picasa.

Computer won't turn on help!!!!

Unplug, remove the battery, plug in, try to turn on. If that fails, try another AC/DC cord/charger with the EXACT same power specs. Has the AC jack been damaged due to pulling on the cord? Damage due to Power surges? Do you leave it plugged in while not in use a lot?

Toshiba A205 laptop charges fine, but freezes when adapter is plugged in.

Identification
  • Computer shops say that up to 20 percent of Toshiba laptops brought in for repair have issues with overheating. Symptoms may be as simple as the keyboard and bottom of the laptop being very hot while the computer is working, or the fans running at maximum rotation while the system becomes very slow for several minutes at a time. More inconvenient issues are common, such as the system completely seizing up and having to be "killed" with the battery pulled out, or the computer may shut down all by itself with no warning. Sometimes the laptop works fine until the user starts any significant memory-demanding applications, like photo editing software, several Internet windows being open at the same time, or an Internet video stream.
Significance
  • A common problem with the Toshiba laptop is that dust becomes clogged between the cooling fan and the heatsink, a device which lowers the temperature by dissipating heat into the surrounding air. Now heat produced by the processor is trapped inside the laptop, and the fan cannot blow it out.

How do I prolong the battery life of my Lenovo S10-2. Should I fully discharge or not?

The easiest things to do to make sure your battery lasts longer include turning down the brightness, turning off the Wi-Fi if you aren't using the internet, making sure that nothing is plugged into the computer, and not running programs that need a lot of resources, like games, or software to edit photos.
As for discharging the battery, the best thing to do for your battery would be to run it all the way down about once a month, and with the computer off, let it charge until the battery is full. What this does is let the battery know how much capacity it really has left, and it gives you a more accurate time remaining estimate on the battery guage.

G72250US..my battery is not charging and even when i plug into power it rfuses to come on HELP!

If the laptop has been non stop plugged in for extended periods of time (leaving it plugged in for days at a time for a few months or years) then the batteries will loose their ability to retain a charge.

The only solution to this is to buy a new battery.

Also check the cable for any damage. If a new battery does not work, it is possible that the computer may have overheated and has been damaged

Just purchased a compaq presario secondhand--is the battery supposed to charge automatically when you plug the computer in? Mine is not. Works perfectly with the power cord though.

All the laptops I have seen since the 1980's charge the battery, if it is installed, while the laptop is running. They charge at a slower rate if you are using the computer, and faster if you just plug it in and leave the computer powered off.
Most have a 'charging' led [green or amber] indicating that the battery is being charged when you plug the laptop in and leave it turned off. If you don't see any indication, check that the battery is connected firmly and that the connectors are not damaged. If possible, try the battery in another machine or a different battery in your machine.

What is better for the laptop battery?

There is much discussion about this. A good option if you are using it plugged in a lot is to run the battery down to about half and then remove it after fitting the power cordt. Refit it just before you remove the power cord.
Leaving the battery in while running from the mains will render the battery useless much quicker than flattening and then recharging. But bear in mind that most batteries have a finite number of recharge cycles before they become useless. It varies from battery make to battery make and from computer to computer.
