Pull cord on chain saw will not retract.

My Husqvarna Rancher chain saw pull cord will not retract when pulled. Can I take it apart and redo the spring somehow or do I need a new part?

My problem is similar except when I loosen the housing, it will retract fine. I have returned 2 Husqvarnas to the dealer with no explanations why this could be happeneing or aideas what the problem could be.

Most of the rancher models are easy to look at. Take the four screws off that hold the starter cover on.When off have a look to see if the pulley is ok or one of the starter dogs(pawls) is jamed . If dogs ok take the screw out of the centre of pulley and remove it ,check for spring tension. if there is just be carful to leave sring in housing. look at spring if broken or out of shape renew it and rope.check for cracks in pulley. When renewing spring and rope get correct rope length and diameter. don't over tension new spring. hop this helps

Make sure the spring is going the right direction when pulld, put spring back in recoil housing carefully if you do it to quick it could spring back on you..... yes it hurts. after you have the spring back in the recoil housing take the rope off rope rotor.that's the piece that holds the rope.always replace to rope even if it looks good...feed new rope on rope rotor, first heat he ends of the rope so it will go in the holes easier.tie a hove hand knot in on end of rope.....put rope in rotor and pull knot thight, feed rope onto rotor until you have no more room for rope.... there should be a notch in rotor for rope to lay in....install rotor and screw tha hold rotor in place....have recoil handle handy....holding on to the rope spin the rotor two rotations....install handle......please be careful

Hard starting

Starting any chain saw can be a bit finicky. How many hours has the saw done since new ruffle? Over about 10 and the saw would have run in and will need to have the fuel adjusted. What fuel to oil ratio are you running?

Just as a point, you might know this but I only pull the saw over 3-4 times with the choke in. Then try to start with it off.

Poulan Pro PP5020AV pull cord won't retract

You need to wind the spring back in a coil at a time, it is not easy if you have never done one, order a new spring, this will come pre wound in a cassette and is an easy fit.

Most saws have a compression release valve which you press for that reason. It is located on the cylinder at the back of the saw. I don't know if the 55 has one , but it should.

I have a Rancher 55 18" with a new chain. Started

First thing you need to check is the cylinder.Take the spark plug ouy.use a flashlight and look down the hole towards the muffler side.If its scratched up afraid the motor is shot and will need to be rebuilt. If its not scratched up let me know on here. Then I will give you more things to check.

The pull cord froze up. I tried to take it apart and rewind the coil spring but can't figure out how it attaches back to the pull cord housing to retract the pull cord. Any help with pictures would be...

I'm afraid you put yourself in a corner. You need to take your chain saw to a repair facility. Make sure to gather all the parts to go with. I know how to install a coil spring, but it's something you have to be shown in person how to do it. It can be pretty tricky.
You could be hurt by the spring uncoiling by accident.

Incidentally, I doubt if the coil was the original problem.
Why do you think that is the problem?

My Husqvarna 232R brushcutter pull cord will not start

There should be several 'dogs' exposed after removing the starter assembly. These 'dogs' should rotate into the flywheel nut when the cord is pulled causing the engine to turn. Check with a Husky servicing dealer for parts. Good luck!

Easy suggestion would be to get new spring coil. Is it older saw? Have had to change mine on poulan saws before.
