SOURCE: unable to connect to internet or e mails

OK for now I would "Roll Back" ya update... OR use system restore.... See if'n it come right if so then Google and see if there are any problems with XP SP3 & EEE PC (I have one and simply LOVE it)... If not.. then maybe ya have a hardware problem co-incidentally.. as a last resort put the linux system on it and test that way? Service packs can be a bear for sure... I would suspect a driver issue or the like but with service packs ya just never know... GL

SOURCE: Cannot connect to the internet following activation of XP

Hi Mark.
It sounds to me more like you've been hacked rather than hijacked.
Have you any antispy software installed on the PC? if you have run that and see if it detects anything, also run your antivirus software for trojans.

You can legally get SP3 through Windows updates.
However if your asking about downloading Windows XP with SP3 from the internet. That's illegal and they do track that.

I have ASUS WL-167G v3 Wireless USB Adapter. It works well with my MacBook but when I connect it to my WinXP PC, it detects the two networks that I have in my house, but does not connect to neither. Both...

You mentioned that you have Windows XP SP1... You need to install at least SP2 or even SP3 for this adapter to work. If this computer doesn't have internet access at all, then you can usually get SP2 or SP3 on a disc for free from Microsoft.

Cannot connect to internet

WOW SP3 was the culprit!

Here are several links to read and decide whether to use SP3 or not. I personally created my own SP3 cd from an SP3 iso file and installed it on my systems. I have not encountered any problems .(knock on wood)

New and Enhanced Functionality in SP3:

Networking
"Black Hole" Router Detection: Now, this detection is on by default and is for detecting routers that are silently discarding packets. This feature is also available in Vista
NAP Network Access Protection: Policy enforcement that protects networks. It is now included Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, and Windows XP SP3. Available in RTM (release to manufacturers) version of Vista

Security
Descriptive Security Options User Interface: More descriptive text, hopefully this will provide better explanations of options.
Enhanced Security for Admin. And Service policy entries: All new policy is present by default and after authentication cannot be removed.
Microsoft Kernel Mode Cryptographic Module: A new Kernel module that fixes a known problem with Microsoft's cryptographic application.
Windows Product Activation: Users can now complete the operating system installation without providing a product key. The keyless install option will allow installs of XP SP3 to proceed without using a product key for 30 days. This option is also available for Vista SP1 will not update your Internet Explorer 6 to Internet Explorer 7. But it will update either your IE 6 or your IE7. From what I've been able to tell so far, the same is true of Windows Media Player. The update does not install the current Media Player 11 as a part of the fixes or additions.

Per PC World:

"Since SP3 was supposed to be mostly a bug-fix/patch consolidation release, the unexpected speed boost comes as a nice bonus," Barth said. "In fact, XP SP3 is shaping up to be a 'must-have' update for the majority of users who are still running Redmond's not-so-latest and greatest desktop OS."

Windows explorer not initiated at startup and hangs the system,

I had this XP problem with Norton recent after SP3 got on.
Clean install and no antivirus, straight afterwards a bootable CD with SP3 then I replace already removed Norton with Avast virus scanner.
Superfast, all problems I ever had gone. Likely the scanner.

Windows xp service pack3 no wireless internet

ok, this is an easy fix, just go into device manager and unistall the wireless card, dissable AVG firewall and activate microsoft's firewall. Then Download CCleaner and clean the registry, you can download it from here:
http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/

when you have cleaned the registry restart the pc, it should now detect the wireless card and install the drivers for it, it will show this in the system tray (bottom righthand side where the time is)
This should resolve the problem for you
post back if you still have problems

Network connection lost since sp3

Go to Add/Remove Programs in the control panel.

Next find Service Pack 3 and select "Uninstall"

This will roll your PC back to XP SP2, if you had SP2 installed prior to installing SP3.
See this link from Microsoft:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936929

Scroll down till you come to "uninstall info for windows service pack 3 release candidate'.
You may have to copy and paste the link into your browser.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe
