Question about Sony Handycam HDR-HC1E HDV Digital Camcorder
CAN YOU ADVISE PLEASE RE MY NEW SONY HIGH DEFINITION CAMCORDER. I KNOW I CAN PLAY MY MINI DV TAPES, WHICH ARE THE HD VERSIONS, ONTO A TV THAT IS HD READY VIA THE HDMI LINK BUT CAN I SAVE THE RECORDED HD TAPES TO MY COMPUTER, EDIT THEM AND THEN SAVE TO DVD DISC AND PLAY ON THE TV TO HIGH DEFINITION STANDARD? IF NOT WHAT CAN I DO TO FACILITATE THIS IE DO I NEED ANOTHER PIECE OF EQUIPMENT, OTHERWISE I WONT BE GETTING THE FULL USE OF THE HD CAMCORDER. REGARDS PAULUS
At this point, unless you have a blu-ray or HD-DVD burner in your computer (and equivalent player), then you can't save HD to a DVD and have it play back in a regular DVD player. You should be able to transfer the HD video through firewire to the computer, but you might have to wait for a while until you can burn them to HD compatible DVDs. The only other option that I know of is to encode the HD video using a DivX codec (http://www.divx.com/) and just burn the file itself to the DVD, then if your DVD player can play DivX files, then you should be able to play it back on that.
