Is there a simple way to explain how to delete unwanted portions of a video clip?

well depending on the software you are using, might be able to highlight a section of the scrubber bar by pressing the space bar and with the mouse drag the scrubber head across till selecting a portion of the scrubber bar, then you can just hit delete.

I use a number of different video editing software so if you tell me which one you are using I can get you specific instructions.
