We bought a 360 repack for our kids. It seemed to work fine. Last night we put in a a game and it would only read a DVD. Then a white screen came up in several languages saying that I needed to insert a game disc. It was already in. I changed the position of the console from horizontal to vertical. Then the game loaded but worked for only a few minutes.

If you have the new kinect xbox 360 dashboard and you cannot get your xbox 360 console to read your game discs or DVDs, you are not alone. An update that was recently applied through Xbox Live makes your discs unreadable. Remove the update by navigating to: System Settings->Memory->STOP HERE! You should see your Hard Drive highlighted, if not move to it and then enter this on your controller: X,LB,RB,X,LB,RB,X Delete System Update will appear, make sure there is no media in your disc drive and select YES. You system will restart and appear to hang DO NOT TURN IT OFF OR MESS WITH IT! After a couple minutes your system will start and you should be able to play discs again.
yeah my xbox 360 does the same thing theres a software that fixes that you have to go with someone that burns games for xbox just asked for the software that converts the xbox so it can read games use that if you buy the software. the way it works you have to put the cd in the xbox before you put the game that you bought but every time you want to play the game you have to put the software disc then you put your game than it will work
well, the only thing that i can think of is that your old games work because you may have backeed them up to your HDD. For whatever reason, it is not reading any of the discs, but you can play the old games because the machine knows the correct disc is in the drive, and plays it straight form the hard drive. Note that this answer is based on the assumption you back your games up; you may need a new DVD drive.
You can try to Clean with dvd cleaning kits...if doesn´t work..the only way fix is to disassemble the 360 and force the dvd laser adjusting the micro pot...located under the laser unit..But you will loose warranty and I think that the best way is to send your game console to microsoft...what hurts is that $140,00 you can buy 02 or even 03 xbox drives on ebay. Choose the best way! Good Luck!
the game cannot be red coz of microsofts screw ups :( i am sorry to say this is the only way to fix the problem unless you can put a new dvd rom into the xboxx ur self witch is definetly not advised too fast a dvd rom u gt a dead xbox or too slow you get burn alover your game discs /..
they normaly repair this for free and they do try to get it back to you as soon a posible
ive got the problem to on some games eg. assassins creed just bought it, it keeps saying read disc error its not the disc its the xbox itself im gunna try and take it bk now.
p.s.the problem is with the memory unit on top.
