Singer 160 Wrong voltage for Australia

I have just opened my new singer 160 out of the box, and plugged it into the power with an adaptor. the machine has popped and blown out. I had no idea that there is a voltage issue and this would be the result. I have since been advised to buy a transformer which I have however I need to some trying to see what I have stuffed with this machine? Is it fuse> can it be replaced ? or is it something more expensive? Please help. All advise is welcome.

Yep same happened to me, scared me, thought I had killed my wife\'s present, went and brought a 100VA (min power required) step down transformer convertor plug in type , still didn\'t work, has to be a fuse somewhere, no warranty on international purchase anyway so had a go at opening it up, undid all the screws took off the end part (near the needle) and still seemed hard to open, of course being a modern device it was clips, levered the cover off (from the back), undid four screws on circuit board found the glass fuse (thank god it wasn\'t some special surface mount thermal type etc) had a box of different fuses and looked it was the small 2A 250V glass type so swapped it out, put it back together and tada! Fixed!

I have a singer 7422 sewing machine which is made in canada. I want to use it in india. So, what type of step down converter do i need and how much watt.

Hello Gargi Sarkar
The power supply voltage in India is between 220 V and 240 V. Your machine will be ruined if you plug it directly into the power supply in India. There are two options:
1. Use a step down adaptor to 'reduce' the 220 - 240 V to 110V which is what your machine can handle. This may be more practical and economical AND you can use the step-down adaptor for other Canadian electronics.
2. Your sewing machine motor can be changed for a 220 - 240 V motor, but often other parts will need to be changed as well. Also more costly.

Have a singer 3221/3232 cannot disengage handwheel to fill bobbin what am I doing wrong

Are you sure you have to pull or push? It looks to me like you just slide the bobbin winder spindle to the right to engage.

Here's a manual for your machine... I'm sure more specific info is in there.

What do I need to connect my singer quantum xl-100 to a computer so I can use other embroidery designs.

You will need a converter box that hooks up to a computer and writes to a card that fits into your sewing machine. Singer PSW 1,0 (box and card), OESD Magic Box (4 slot), and Amazing Designs Amazing box (also 4 slot) will do this. You will also have to make sure these boxes come with a blank card. Amazing Designs and OESD cards MAY be interchangeable. Not sure about the Singer card. In regards to the Singer Card--there are 2 types. Make sure the one you get is for the XL100 or XL1000. XL5000 on up is different. Singer, OESD, or Amazing Designs no longer support Singer XL100 so you will have to go to EBAY. These items are rare but they do pop up a few times a year. ALSO, the software only runs on Windows XP. Don't know if there is a patch, but there is a Yahoo group that deals with Singer XL100/1000. Good Luck

Bought a singer from the state but cannot be used in australia what should i do?

If it is an electronic or computerized machine, you are out of luck. USA has 110 volt 60Hz current, Australia has 220 volt 50Hz. A transformer can change 220 to 110 volts, but it cannot change 60Hz to 50Hz.

I bought singer 7422 from Brazil, so it is 110 voltage, we moved to Finland and here we have 220. My daughter connect it directly to 220V, I changed fuse as it was broken, but it broke again.

Call Singer before you plug it in again, you may wreck your machine if you have the wrong voltage. Go to singerco.com and get the phone number for your country,.Be careful and good luck

I bough a brand new Singer embroidery from America (I live in Australia). When it finally arrived I eagerly pluged it in using a regular plug adapter. It turned on for an instant and then quickly fizzled...

Unfortunately you need an 240AC to 110AC adapter for this kind of equipment (try **** Smith). A plug adapter does nothing to change voltage it just lets the plug fit the power point, this is ok for some smaller electronic devices that are built to automatically sense the voltage. There is usually a sticker in small print on the device that will tell you what voltages it will take. I can't tell you whether its been damaged, but by going by your description it doesn't sound good. You can try an AC to AC adapter but it may not work now. I'd ask the supplier for a replacement as they should have known that Aus is 240V.
