Watching TV and top 1/3 screen ghosted by colors

Was watching tv and the top 1/3 of screen suddenly ghosted and there are 1 inch red, blue and green wavey horizontal lines seperating the other 2/3 of screen which is fine. On certain channels I can notice the center of the image is bowing down to the middle of the screen. Any help would be appreciated. Thanx

On this type of tv each gun is controled by hor.and ver. chip together. it is on the board that controls the convergence of the tv. some manufactors have recalls on problems like this. i dont know if this one does but it may. you can check with mitsub. i do know that this part is about 250.00

Ghosting of the image

The most likely cause is shorted convergence chips and possibly a few pico fuses.

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer2_bing.gif Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get a convergenece repair kit with instructions from the links below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

Problem #1) Convergence

Yours may have one or more of the following symptoms...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2
Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

Red, green and blue colours diveded on my TV

ok well "tube" tellys as they are called use an electro magnet to keep the picture stable and colours correct its called gaussing now if you have a speaker or something magnetic nearby it will stuff up the colors but only normally producing colors like purple, green, or white
if you have colors across the screen (that aren't caused by magnetic force) then you need to take it to a repairer or decide wether or not to buy a new one this issue can turn out to be quite hard to fix and can be expensive the different colored electron guns may be burning or burnt out causing pale color or it could be as simple as a power transistor in the H.V supply has shorted out..and causing power issues to the tube.
hope this helps,ben

Sony tv KP-61HS10 lenses wont align

This is common in those sets. One of your convergence IC's has stopped working and needs to be replaced. The convergence IC should be replaced and the convergence circuits realigned by someone with experience in Sony projection sets.
