SOURCE: old homelite XL chainsaw pumping bar oil into engine while runnin

Check that the oiler hole and the hole in the bar that it pumps into aren't clogged. The sawdust running under the chain and be deposited in the oiler hole in the bar until it plugs it solid. That will keep the oil from havintg a place to go and build up pressure.

I have a HOMELITE XL-12 chain saw. Web sites say it takes a mix of oil and gas. But mine has a place to put oil in. Which should I do?.

The mix of oil and gas should be a 32:1 ratio which is 4 oz. of oil to every gallon of gas. I am assuming that what you are seeing is the oil tank for the bar oil. You need to use bar and chain oil for this tank as it is what keeps the chain lubricated. Do not use two cycle oil for the tank marked oil.

Gas oil mixture

The header says that it is an electric saw which would only require bar oil. A 2-stroke gas engine, however, does require fuel mixed with a modern saw oil at 40:1 ratio plus bar/chain oil in it's own tank as well. Always premix the fuel and oil in a separate can and shake well even before filling the saw. Hope this helps!

I have a Homelite Super XL chain saw model 100454. Gas leaking around cap when turned on side to cut. Cork gasket look fine and surface is flat where cap in screwed on. Any help?

Just because that cork gasket "looks fine" does not mean it is working properly. Replace it with a polypropylene (oil and gas resistant rubber) gasket. That will clear up your fuel leak problem.
