SOURCE: Microwave does not heat

It may be a bad door switch or door switch mount, a bad 0.25A fuse (there are three fuses in the unit, but if any of those were bad it would be dead) or if the cooktop lights have blown recently, that shorting / arc could have caused damaged to the circuit board.

I suspect the latter, but you have to check.

We regularly repair these control units for customers nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a week or so with a one-year guarantee.

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, & testing.

You can also see it online here.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

The mini manual will show you the relative location of key components and gives you testing help.

More info on checking & ordering door switches is here.

You can find links to helpful exploded view diagrams and part ordering help here. I recommend that you bookmark that link to your favorites.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your full model number from the tag on the unit) for more information & help.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

In many Whirlpool models, there are several fuse and thermal cutouts (TCOs) / thermostats.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

If you don't find yours, or if you want to look at it without disassembling the oven, you can download it here.

Inside light won't go off and allow unit to work

The interior light stays on during the cooking process. You could be right about an interlock problem but also the internal fuse could have blown.

Microwave doesn't work

Sounds like you have a faulty control panel. I would use a meter and test the power from the control board to the magnetron and circuit board. Chances are the control panel is faulty

Microwave light bulb out

This is simple, and "FixYa" technical staff has clearly not looked at our model.

Take off the vent across the top (three long screws) to expose a single screw over the keypad.

Remove the single screw, and the whole keypad consile will lift up and off, likely hanging by a plastic tab/support on the bottom.

Now you can twist the light bulb plug to remove it from the support structure, change the bulb, and replace all that you've done.

Simple.

Interior fan and light

Hidden behind the control panel is a mini-manual with schematic and wiring diagram. If I could see a scan of that, I could tell you for sure.

But since it cooks, on most recent Whirlpool models, this would have to be a bad connection on the circuit board. We repair these circuit boards for $39.95 nationwide.

If you or a friend decide to look into it, we have critical safety disassembly information at our site, linked here on Fixya: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

Over range microwave not working properly

Generally, the most common causes of a failure to heat are:

- bad door switches or door switch mounts
- loose connection at the magnetron
- problem or loose conneciton on the control unit circuit board
- bad magnetron or other high voltage part

At our site, we have critical safety information, info on door switch diagnosis and replacement, and disassembly information.
