Question about LaCie 160GB Ext/Firewire 7200 160 GB Hard Drive
I tried to connect my external harddrive to my mac but when it turns on it just makes sounds and does not mount to my laptop. I think one time i left it connected for a long time and it actually did mount but then i was not able to drag any folders out of it because after clicking on icon it would freeze my laptop. will i have to send it to recovery specialists?
Hi and welcome to FixYa,
Sorry to be the one bringing you the bad news but any sound from a hard drive is an indication of mechanical problem, often the head hitting the stops or bouncing off the platters.
Of course the recovery specialists would be a good idea. However, you may want to get a quote first and time required for the recovery. In some instances, the cost/time would no longer justify the recovery as an economical option.
Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.
Pls be informed that due to my current rank and rating, even a Helpful would be detrimental to my status. Should this solution not address your concern, it would be appreciated if you could just not rate this at all. Cheers.
