Iwould like to change my password for WIFI

This is easy:

Understand that you will need two passwords. The first will be the password to be able to access your router through a computer that is hooked up to it. the second password will be the one you will want to create for the wifi access by other wireless devices.

Google the make and model of your router and navigate to the manufacturer's website. At that point you will download or look at the manual for that router, and in the manual should be specific instructions on how to access the router, and then change the wireless password.

From a computer connected to the router either wirelessly or by an Ethernet cable, you will need to open an Internet browser and then you wil type in the router's IP address into the address bar of your browser. Typically it is 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1
From this point you should see the username and password page for access to the router.
Most manufacturers of routers set the default username to be "admin" and the password is usually the word "password" or it is simply to leave the password section blank. If you already have a user name and password for the router, you will need that for access. If after trying to find access to the router, you are unable to either use the manufacturers default or you cannot remember the username and password you had previously assigned, then you can reset the router two factory condition by pressing a small recessed button present somewhere on the router. At that point the router will be set to its original default settings, and the manufacturer's manual should be able to tell you how to gain access with its default username and password.

Tip

SETTING UP A BROADBAND CONNECTION

First you need to decide what type of broadband service you require and these are -
1. DSL that uses your existing telephone line.
2. Cable that uses a cable service and can include a cable TV service.
3. A wireless USB adapter connects to a 3G network mobile/cell phone network and can be a separate or combined with your cell phone account.

Note - Any combined phone services (fixed line or wireless) with Internet connection generally offer discount pricing and may include a wireless adapter or modem/wireless router
.

If you use a wireless router with the DSL or Cable Internet service and your laptop has a wireless card then you can also connect to the Internet at WiFi hot spots like McDonalds, Star Bucks, the Airport etc.

If you use the wireless 3G wireless broadband service, then you can access the Internet anywhere where your ISP has 3G wireless coverage. You need to check the service coverage area where you need Internet service.
The advantage of using a USB wireless adapter is, you can plug it into any conputer/laptop's USB port and get Internet connection.

Once you decide what type of broadband your require, then you need to check with the various Internet Service providers to see if they can offer and thecost of the various plans.
Note the maximum download limits and the associated additional costs if you exceed the monthly download limits.

Once you sign up with a Internet Service provider, their documentation will include setting up instructions and/o rinstallation CD.

Reset linksy router b> One of the most common fixes for Internet connectivity often involves resetting the source of your Internet connection. If you have a DSL or cable Internet connection, you may use a Linksys router to get on the Internet. When you reset a Linksys router, you'll likely solve your connection problem.

Turn off the power to your computer's modem. Use the switch on your cable or DSL modem to disable it while you reset the Linksys router. Find the reset button your Linksys router. Most Linksys models have the reset option on the back of the router. Use a pointed pen or pencil to press in the reset button on your Linksys router. Hold down the reset button for approximately 30 seconds. Watch the lights on the front of the router. After you reset the router, power will get restored to the Linksys router. Once power's available, you can switch the modem back on. Reconfigure your router. After you reset your router, you'll have to log in and reconfigure your settings. The login name is typically left empty with your password as "admin."
Reset a Linksys Wireless Router b> You may need to reset your Linksys wireless router if you are having Internet connectivity issues or other networking problems. You can reset the router to the default factory settings, such as the default IP (Internet protocol) address, username and password. However, after you perform the factory reset, you can follow the initial setup instructions to replace your previous settings.

Write down any important settings you may have--such as the router's password--before you reset the router. Locate the reset button on the router. Some Linksys models have a reset button on the back side. Other Linksys models have a small pinhole you may need to access by using the tip of a pen or pencil. Press and hold the reset button for a minimum of 30 seconds to perform a factory reset on the Linksys router. The Linksys router should lose power. Power on the Linksys router to initiate the configuration wizard. Reconfigure any previous wireless settings on your Linksys router.

Hope this helps.

I cannot reset my password

Im presuming its your internet connection password ?

Your Internet service provider (ISP) requires a username and password to access service features, including Internet and email.

Your ISP should provide this information when you set up your Internet service.

Typically, once you complete the setup and save the information, your router or modem transmits it behind the scenes when you try to access the Internet.

As a result, the username and password can be easily forgotten because they are not used daily.

If you reset your router or simply forget the password, gaining access to network resources and the Internet becomes a challenge.

Call your ISP's technical support department.

Many ISPs set a default username and password for their routers.

If you didn't change the username and password, your ISP can provide the original information.

Before you hang up, make sure the information is correct by entering it and trying to connect to the Internet.

If the information is incorrect and you still cannot get a connection, keep the information for later reference.

Call your router's manufacturer.

The manufacturer of your router sets a username and password prior to shipping the device to your ISP.

Look at the router for the contact information of the manufacturer.

Call their customer service or technical support department and ask for the default information.

Reset your router.

If you changed your router's username and password and cannot remember what you entered, you may have to reset the router.

Insert the resource CD into your computer's CD drive.

When the software installation program starts, search the screen for "Resources" or "Documentation" or "User Manual."

Click the documentation link and search the table of contents for resetting the router.

When you reset the router, the username and password return to the default set by your ISP or manufacturer.

Enter the information provided by your ISP or manufacturer.

Hope this helps.

I was told to access 192.168.0.1 to make my computer secure but am not sure what steps to take

I am assuming you are talking about a wireless router and are asking how to secure it.

First, plug your computer DIRECTLY to the router via an ethernet cable.

http://192.168.0.1
http://192.168.1.1

One of the above addresses should open the configurations of your router. If you open the configuration, you will be prompted to input a password/username.

If you do not know the "default" username/password, then look at the following link to find your router.
http://www.phenoelit-us.org/dpl/dpl.html

If there has already been a password change and you do not know the password, you will have to reset your router. You can reset your router by looking at the back of it for a reset button and holding it in for about 10 or so seconds with it powered on. The reset button is usually pretty small and requires a ball point pen or something small tipped to press it. Resetting the router puts all settings back to factory default...including password.

Okay, now you should have access to the configurations of the router.

Things you want to change:
1. Password for the router
2. Under "wireless"options, change it so that it uses encryption like WEP or WPA.
3. Disable any options for "remote management".

When you added encryption, if you were connected wirelessly...you got booted off the router. That is why you need to connect via an ethernet cable. You will need to go back to your wireless settings in router and copy down the WEP/WPA "security key" it randomly made up. Some routers have you make the security key up yourself, so there would be no need to go look it up on the router.

Take the above security key and input it when you go to connect to your wireless connection and are prompted to input the "security key". Without the security key, you can not access the router.

Those are the basics to securing your router. There are more advanced tactics, but offer little to no protection if someone has bypassed the WEP/WPA encryption. If a person knows how to bypass the security key, then they more than likely also know how to bypass things like MAC Address filtering.

There is no real protection from a hacker, nothing is hack proof. The most you can do is make it that much harder for someone to gain access to your network or computer.

Hope this answered your question.

Need to configure for wirless setupnew dsl line from one isp to another need to set up router for wireless connection

If you are setting up a new router for DSL connection, i presume that you already know the login credentials to access your router's admin interface. By default, depending on your router's model, you can access and configure it at http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.0.1 using a web browser and make sure that computer you are using is connected to the router through an ethernet cable.

Default login credentials:
user name: admin
password: admin (or try also leaving it blank)

When you are at the web interface, go to a link known as SETUP and there you can setup your connection. If your DSL provides you a user name and password, then you can also enter them there. Then save your settings.

To allow internet broadcasting using wifi, go to a link known as "WIRELESS" and setup encryption there using WAP, WPA2, or WEP or any other recommended encryption protocol. Through this, you can prevent other users near your place to use your internet connection without informing you.
