Question about Washing Machines

My Hotpoint WF360 is stuck on TEST. It finishes running through all the lights and comes back to the program I want but every time I push start, it runs the test again. I have switched it off and tried to cancel it all to no avail. Please help!

HI,

Hotpoint washing machine shows test in display

Symptoms: Hotpoint washing machine just keeps running on its own and won't accept a program

This is caused when the demo mode is accidentally switched on. Instead of using a combination of two keys that need two hands to press, Some Hotpoint washing machines use two buttons next to each other to put the washing machine into demo mode. Even a leg leaning against the start and cancel buttons while reaching over the washing machine can turn on the demo (test) mode. To turn it off and get the washing machine working again, switch the washing machine on, then press and hold the centre line between the start and cancel buttons so that you are pressing them both in simultaneously. After a few moments you should see "d_OFF"
Sometimes this works first time. Sometimes it needs repeated attempts. If you are having trouble, try waiting until it's finished the spin section of the demo and catch it before it starts again.
and from http://www.hotpoint-wf840.utvinternet.com/
What if your machine seems to be stuck in a Test mode and wont wash? Stop the "TEST" cycle by holding down the "START/CANCEL" Button.
("Test" should disappear off the display)
Then hold down "START/CANCEL" & "ON/OFF" at the same time for a few seconds.

The message "d:Off" should appear in the display. Everything should work now

Hotpoints are designed to go into test mode when the start button and the on/off button are pressed at the same time. If you are stuck in Test mode, simply hold the start button down until it comes out of test mode, then hold both the start buttons and the on/off button down until you see ‘D:end’ (or similar message). Now try setting up a wash again
Good Luck

Hotpoint aquarius program won't start

Try this. Unplug unit. While unplugged, hold in power button for about 10 seconds. Release plug back in. See if that has reset the control module. Works on some other makes. Can't hurt to try.

Hotpoint WF360 Stuck on test

It appears your timer/controller has failed in this instance.

For replacement parts - head on over to PartSelect.com or RepairClinic.com and enter in your full model number for a full parts listing.
I recommend both sites because ...

FixYa has no affiliation with either site - I have been using and recommending them for years - trouble free.

PartSelect has a great schematic database for locating the part on your unit and great "testimonials" for each part that often times includes HOW-TO information.
RepairClinic has pictures of each part they sell and also a great how-to and troubleshooting for basic repairs.

If your unit has never been serviced - there should still be an original service manual enclosed in plastic taped to the inside of the shell.
In the service manual are Error codes, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting steps you can follow.

Anything too complicated or beyond your scope should be handled by a professional.

If you think you want to tackle the repair - and have gotten stuck on a step - reply to your question and I will be glad to help you out.

Thanks for using FixYa - a 4 THUMBS rating is appreciated for answering your FREE question

the applionce is in demmo mode and running a test cycle so you need to cancle the cycle first by holding the start reset button until all the screen iluminates(88:88) now you need to disable the demo mode by holding the start cancle and the on off buttons together until you see D OFF in some cases you may need to hold the button to the top left of the screen and the start and on off buttons but this will sort it

This works

To exit the TEST mode, press and hold down the "Start/Cancel" button until ALL of the console lights light up. Press both "Start/Cancel" and On/Off buttons simultaneously until " dOFF " appears in the display. The default setting will now appear and the machine can be used normally.

funny my machine does the same, i have had 2 answers one says to hold both the on off button and start button till it comes out of test mode? well something like that, (didn't work) and another tells me its just the board thats faulty, I do believe myself this can be reset by the right test equipment from Hotpoint (Hotpoint not helpful and i have a Hotpoint engineer as a neighbour), its also most embarrassing as i am a recently retired appliance engineer myself of 20 years, i have also been told its a conspiracy to get an engineer to call out to reset it and charge for doing so (being a computer control machine (not sure myself, these things don't happen - do they) Ps if you get told a cure and it works tell me please

If you by accident press the start button and the cancel button at the same time it puts the washer into demo mode.To switch it off press both buttons at the same time and hold until dEND is displayed. Sometimes you have to keep trying but it will work, it did with mine ok.
