Hello,
A very typical problem with GAS dryers is the soloniod coils that open the gas valve . When the coils are cool they operate just fine,but once the dryer gets warm from running the coils dont open the gas valve wwhen they are warm. If that is what your experiencing,the dryer heats when its cool but doesn't heat when it's been running for a while,the coils on the gas valve will need to be replaced.

Hello,
If what happens is the flame comes on when it first starts,after the flame goes off you see the igniter glows then goes off but no flame,the coils that open the gas valve are working while thier cool but once thedryer gets running,when warm to hot the gas valve coils wont open the gas valve so when the igniter comes on and no flame the coils have failed to open gas valve and need to be replaced, all manufactures use the same coil supplied by one parts supplier, and them not opening the valve when warm is a very common occurence regardless of what brand gas dryer it is.
The part number for the coils is 279834 they could be picked up from your local appliance parts store for under $20 or online at;

Whirlpool ggw9868kq .Ducts are clean, airflow is good. Drum rotates. Dryer warms up then heating stops. happens in both auto and timed cycles.

My whirlpool dryer Model GGW9896KQ2 seems to run ok but it doesn't seem to heat up properly and takes several cycles to dry clothes. I checked the exhaust vent and it seems to be blowing air out ok. Also, it appears the dryer goes to the cool down cycle way to early. In addition, the dryer will sometimes shut off before the time is acutally done. help--I don't want to spend money for a tech or even a new dryer. It's only 8 years old.

This is usually the dryer coils have failed. They tend to fail as they heat up. They are inexpensive and easy to replace. Here is a video on replacing the dryer coils. The dryer is not staying hot to dry the clothes.

Sounds like the overheat is tripping, usually due to lint clogging the exit inside the dryer and inside the pipe.
