Question about Kenmore Elite HE4 Electric Dryer

1 Answer

Poor drying quality

Our Kenmore Smartheat Quietpac 9, approx 3 years old, is not operating at it's full potential. After 50 minutes, on high, clothes are still damp. Hydro bill is suffering.

if its a condenser dryer for some unknown spastic reason we have come across some where 80% of the settings didn't dry the clothes we then found out this how they were suppose to work (dont ask me why still havnt figured that i think it was something to do with ironing and not needing to use steam because they are already damp yeah i know doesnt really make a whole lotta sense to me eitha), you need to look up what cycles actually do what as i found only manual and 1 other setting actually completely dyed the clothes

I own a Kenmore elite smartheat quietpack9 but it does not dry the clothes, It is a gas, flipped the gas switch and I am getting the same result, clothes are damp, never feel hot.

It appears your gas valve has failed in this instance.

For replacement parts - head on over to PartSelect.com or RepairClinic.com and enter in your full model number for a full parts listing.
I recommend both sites because ...

FixYa has no affiliation with either site - I have been using and recommending them for years - trouble free.

PartSelect has a great schematic database for locating the part on your unit and great "testimonials" for each part that often times includes HOW-TO information.
RepairClinic has pictures of each part they sell and also a great how-to and troubleshooting for basic repairs.

If your unit has never been serviced - there should still be an original service manual enclosed in plastic taped to the inside of the shell.
In the service manual are Error codes, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting steps you can follow.

Anything too complicated or beyond your scope should be handled by a professional.

If you think you want to tackle the repair - and have gotten stuck on a step - reply to your question and I will be glad to help you out.

2 to 3 cycles to fully dry clothes

if the clothes are warm after the cycle then you need to make sure the vent to the outside of the house is not plugged if they are not warm then it is in the heating circuit of the dryer wether it be the element or a fuse will have to be tested. to dry clothes it takes heat and air flow if you dont have one of the two they will not dry correctly
