My Toshiba AD-P1400 displays everything backwards. I purchased it for a gift a long time ago (no more warranty) but it has never been used.
Even the screen message the comes up when you first turn on the unit is backwards (mirrored).
DVD seems to play ok - a little noisy - but any text on the movie is backwards.
Anyone know how to fix this? I sure hope it's something I am doing wrong or not understanding.

Usually this is a bad inverter. The best way to check this is to hold the unit up to a very bright light and see if there is a ghost of am image visible and moving, just not bright enough to be seen properly. This means that the display is working, but the flourescent display behind it is not being powered properly, and most LCD displays require a little inverter board to convert the native DC power to AC to light the backlight. inverter boards are cheap if you can find the proper one for your unit. Unfortunately some units have the inverter board integrated into the motherboard of the player, though that is rare. It should be a separate (and thus replacable) component. Good luck!
My player worked fine couple of days ago, then last night when powered up, message was "load" and it stayed like this forever, and tray open would not work. Tried everything, nothing worked. Left unplugged from power for 24 hrs and bingo everything worked as should. I suspect that the unit is still trying to load info from last disc which I stopped in the middle of some bonus material, even though the disc was no longer in the tray.
Hey Mueller8400, If you purchased a Toshiba HD-DVD player from your local Best Buy™ store before February 23rd, 2008, you may be eligible to receive a $50.00 Best Buy™ gift card. Many of our customers should have already received notification of this offer and their gift cards, but if you have not yet received anything in the mail I would strongly suggest contacting us directly for further assistance. You can reach a Consumer Relations agent by calling our toll-free hotline at 888-Best-Buy (888-237-8289), and requesting to speak with an agent regarding a store policy question. Please keep in mind however, that not all DVD players are eligible for this offer. Combination HD-DVD/Blu-ray players, computers with HD-DVD ROM drives, and upconvert DVD players do not qualify as eligible products at this time. I would also suggest making sure that you have the receipt or order confirmation page from your purchase handy when you contact Consumer Relations, as your order number or Customer Service PIN number will be necessary to ensure that you qualify. Hope this helps you out. Sincerely, Aaron Go Ahead. Use Us.
jusguessin should call Toshiba quickly. The units have a 1 year

Open the unit. Remove the DVD drive. Take the top off of the DVD drive.
Clean the lense with a q-tip with a little windex on it. Work the head
up and down gently. Reassemble and test. If problem presists, go buy a
