Question about Sony VAIO VGN-CS220J/W Notebook

1 Answer

My screen jitters

My VGN-CS220J jitters every 6 seconds or so, it used to be just a discoloration on the toolbar for about 2 weeks, now the whole screen is jittering. Is there any way I can fix this or will I have to take it to a professional (as in something is wrong internally)?

SOURCE: How to troubleshoot flickering, jittering,

Any monitor has something called a screen refresh rate. If you are replacing your old monitor with a newer one, there is sth called a screen refresh rate that you need to configure. Older monitors (size also matter) have a lower screen refresh rate than the newer ones. If that happens to be your case, find the refresh rate of your new LCD on its manual and adjust it like this.

  1. Right click on an icon free area on your desktop.
  2. Click Properties
  3. On the Property dialog click on the Settings Tab
  4. At the bottom of the form click on Advanced
  5. On the coming property dialog click on the monitors tab
  6. Under Monitor Settings you will find the screen refresh rate combo box, here select the rate that suits you screen and click apply.
  7. confirm your actions in the confirmation window.
Note: Be sure to select a screen refresh rate that matches your screen. If you select a rate bigger than the LCD's capacity you will end up with a black screen on your monitor and won't be able to see the desktop unless you boot in safe mode.

OK, FIRST you must see if that power adapter is actually producing power, you need a meter, as even if there are any lights etc on, on the power supply, it still may not be producing current at the power plug, the lead may be broken, or the supply faulty. IF the PSU, is proved OK, then the problem is most likely on the Motherboard itself. To check, if motherboard or components, swap out the HDD, DVD, RAM, IF the PC, powers up after swap out, or removal, then that's the faulty part. If however there is NO difference, then that proves it to the Motherboard.

My vgn-cs220J is flickering when i opened it but it goes away as i used the laptop for about 15 minutes. but every time i opened my laptop it will flicker. what can i do with it. tnx.

It would either be one of two things. either the LCD backlight is not getting power completely until it has warmed up, or there is a slight disconnect with the ribbon cable that attaches the LCD screen to the motherboard. Either one of those will have to require the computer being opened up and inspected by a technician.
