It looks like your model is "GH4184XS##" If so, this sort of symptom is common in cases where the cooktop lights blow.

Several components on the control circuit board can be damaged, and other strange symptoms can occur.

But we see (and repair) this a lot. The problem is on the control board, which we regularly repair for $39.95.

At our Web site, you can get details of our service, plus we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

This failure often occurs when a cooktop bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

The lights can can be inoperable or stuck on or stuck in "night light" mode. Sometimes this will similarly affect the fan operation or inside light, too.

If you prefer, you can purchase a new control circuit board from the Pros here, our favorite supplier.

You can look up part number based on your full model number here.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

SOURCE: Sharp microwave runs when door closed

This is usually caused by either a bad door switch, a loose door switch mount, or sometimes a problem on the control panel.

I would suspect the door switch mount has a broken tab allowing the switch to swing down when the door is closed, not allowing it to really be activated.

Also, even though a door switch clicks, it may still be bad inside. Its continuity must be checked.

Switch or mount trouble can be caused by slamming the door or by opening the door while it's cooking without hitting the Stop pad first.

If you or a friend decide to look into it, we have critical information on safety, disassembly and door switches at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

If it goes dead or blows the breaker or GFI when you plug it in or open or close the door, then there's a problem with a door switch or door switch mount.

Even though a door switch clicks, it may still be bad inside. Its continuity must be checked.

Door switch or mount trouble can be caused by slamming the door or by opening the door while it's cooking without hitting the Stop pad first.

There are plastic mounts inside the microwave which hold the door switches and onto which the door latches lock when you close the door.

The screws on these mounts may be loose. If they get too loose, the switches will not be activated properly.

Sometimes it's a broken tab on the switch holder, allowing the switch to rotate just out of position. Other times, it's a broken tab on the switch holder, allowing the switch to rotate just out of position. This tab can be hard to see, since it is under the bottom edge of the switch.

If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical information on safety, disassembly and door switches at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa:.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

There may also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.

please review this and fix it. God bless you

  1. Interlock switchIf your microwave is turning itself on, the first thing to check is the interlock switch. This is usually the first thing to malfunction that could cause this issue. If the interlock switch is bad then it will need to be replaced.
  2. Main control boardIf your microwave is turning itself on and the interlock switch is still working, the probable cause is the main control board. If the control board is defective it will need to be replaced.

Display screen shows an F-6 and it quit working

F6 usually means that the cook relay is stuck on the control board.

So it probably is running whenever the door is closed. This can be dangerous, and can cause a fire.

So until it is repaired, please leave it unplugged or leave the door open when it's not in use, and please do not leave it running unattended.

We regularly repair such control units for customers nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a week or so with a one-year guarantee.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your full model number from the tag on the unit) for more information & help.

Fans runs when door closed, light always off

The first thing to replace is your technician. *grin*

You have a shorted main relay (lamp relay) on the control circuit board and a burned out light bulb.

You do not need a new board.

We regularly repair such control units for customers nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a week with a one-year guarantee.

Page 24 of your owner's manual shows you how to replace the light bulb. Be sure to unplug it first.

If you don't have your manual, you can download it here.

Sharp Microwave oven controls do not work

You mean the turntable motor turns whenever the door is shut, even if you're not cooking?

If that's the case, then the problem would probably be a stuck relay (RY3) on the control circuit board, which we regularly repair nationwide for $39.95 postpaid.

We have full details, plus *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info at our site. You'll find a link to our site in our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

If you want to try to fix it your self, Always remember Electricity is dangerous and should be treated with respect.
Microwaves are very dangerous, they can still shock you even unplugged!!
Use a metal ( not the shiny chrome type ) screw driver with a insulated handle to short across ( touch both at the same time ) the terminals of the high voltage capacitor to discharge it. With the microwave unplugged.
If my attachment made it, it shows a common way to do this....
Good Luck!
