It is the compressor that has failed. The hum is it trying to start and the following click is the overload protector opening. What is the temperature where the refrigerator is located? Allow the compressor to cool down before trying to restart it. If it still does not restart after it has cooled off it is done.

You have a sealed system problem. There is either a small leak or a restriction somewhere in the tubing. This isn't something you could've caused so don't worry about that. Unfortunately this isn't something you can fix yourself either. You require a certified refrigeration technician to fix this problem.

The compressor should be OK this time because you caught it in time. But if the condenser fan stops you need to consider replacing the fan. I have had refrigerators do fine until the fan motor warms up and you are away, it stops. Don't think you should use the refrigerator until the fan is fixed. Sea Breeze

The fan speed can be deceptive. That is why this problem is so hard to diagnose, when the fan starts to wear out the motor spins but not with enough force to circulate air thru the freezer and rrefrigerator. If you have the ability to swap out the fan motor then it should only cost you the price of the motor and components. That sounds like the start relay is buzzing. Unplug and lets check the compressor to see how hot and if too hot to hold your hand on the top of compressor we need to leave it unplugged until we find out if the start relay, start capacitor, overload or if the condenser fan stops after running a short while.
