1 Answer

Thin white line

TV was working well in past. I turned it on one day to find a thin line across the center of the screen. The sound is also silent. This is a magnavox model # RS2745 C104 with SR 14939276 and Chassie # 27S101-00DD

I think you have a power supply problem and that one of the supply lines is down it will need a technician to solve this problem.

You have bad grounds on the vertical IC. If you know of a electronic hobbiest , they can repair this. The pins of the vertical IC have separated from the TV board itself. Resolder these pins and do not short the pins together with excess solder. The sound may return. But there is other things to consider. This TV by now has many many bad solder grounds through out the board. Close visual inspection will find areas that need resoldered. Have all the capacitors checked with an ESR meter and replace as necessary. We are looking for about two caps near the vertical IC and three in the horizontal section. Please replace the 200 volt 100 Mf cap and the deflection cap near the edge of the board. This cap is a 160 volt or 200 volt cap at 1 Mf. There is another one of the same value near and be hind the flyback transformer, also 160 or 200 volts at 1 Mf.Good luck. Hope the sound returns and a full picture on the TV as well. Show a few hands of support!

The TV has a thin horizontal line across the screen. Sometimes the line has color and sometimes the line is white. Everything else seems to be working (i.e. sound, channel changing, game hookups).

Sounds like a failure in your vertical deflection circuit. Unfortunately, the days of taking off the back cover of your TV and replacing a defective tube or fuse are long gone. Proper servicing will require troubleshooting procedures that can only be performed by a qualified electronic repair facility or professional television repair person. Ask for an estimate and a realistic appraisal of whether the set can be adequately fixed. Depending on the age and condition of your TV it may not be cost effective to repair.

vertical output IC has loose solder joints.if you continue to let it operate this way it will etch a burn line across the face of the tube so discontinue use.
