Many times with very old wiring the wire can break inside the coating and not be visible. To check for sure what has happened you will need an electric tester. You will need to check for 120 volts acros the two wires with the switch on. If there is no power, then check at the switch. If there is power there then the wire is broken.
Replacement of the old wires in an old house is very difficult and you will probably want to hire a professional to do that.
