Question about Gateway Computers & Internet
Gateway M460 laptop-CD drive not working unless computer recovered.
Good thing is it seems like a software fault not hardware, when it isn't working check to see if the drivers are still there and if they are updated. something may be deleting the drivers for the device like a virus. so there may be a program that you use after you recover that sends it to **** again. Download Avast! antivirus and use that, best protection around.
To check to see if the DVD/CD has the drivers click start -> right click computer -> click manage -> (wait for screen to load) click on device manager and navigate to the cd/dvd rom drive. you can manage the drivers from there and update, locate the driver and backup, rollback drivers etc..

a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of.(from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones)
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

Depends - what gateway? the one you listed under?? Because the model you posted with already came with a DVD drive.
Reply with the model of your machine and i can probably find you help. Gateway usually has instructions on their site.
The instructions for the M305CRV are here.
That model can use pretty much any standard laptop CD if you dont mind the face not matching get a generic drive like the Sony CRX880a at

SOURCE: HP laptop zv5000 will not boot.
The "Bootmgr is Missing" is basically telling you the Partition/s have either become Corrupt or Deleted. If you have more then 2 hard drives, check in the bios to see which one is set as master/slave, and also check the Boot Sequence order. Doubt whether re-seating the memory will do any good, as you would not evem get the Bootmgr is missing error if the Memory was unseated, You just need a clean install of windows put back on there.

Dear Sigma 101,
I am working on an HP Pavilion dv5000 right know and let me tell you that I had the same problem. When I first got this laptop, the owner told me that it has some virus on it and Yes, the CD/DVD combo drive was gone!. So, the steps that you might want to consider is to go back with System Restore (Star,All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, and then System Restore) then, select Restart my computer to an earlier time and, Click Next and your system will show you a calendar, select the date available or click < to descend and click Next (for instance in my PC shows on the left December 15 of last year and then on the right the exact time as last good configuration) This option will only work if you have a previous back up or restoration point applied in the past .
Might sure that you save all of your files before you do this and good luck.
