Question about Xerox Office Equipment & Supplies
I hit return, then while pressing the green code key I press the left margin key, but the margin does not release. The green code key works with every other function. Could the typewriter be broken? Or did another user mistakenly save settings that hopefully I can undo? Would appreciate some help. Thanks!
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

Typewriters have alimit to how far to the right or left that you can set margins. Once you use the alt & 6 key to bypass the current margin setting then move to the new setting then hold the alt key and touch the 7 key to keep it in the new position.

SOURCE: Carriage return problem
If it returns with the express key the latching mech. on the rt. side is probably gummy. Take off the case, get some WD40 and spray the mechinism that latches the ret on the rt. side below the platen.

Sounds like the return lever arm is not putting enough pressure on the return clutch, or the clutch is slipping. The exp key uses the same clutch but the pressure comes from your finger. Theres no way you can fix this yourself. Get an IBM mechanic.
