My notebook is saying determining device configuration now for an hour can u help

If your computer has been off for a long period of time, you might have to run the setup program again, usually when it powers up, it will tell you how to enter the setup phase, if not, you might be able to get a friend to go online to check out the process for you. If your laptop is very old, you may need to replace the cmos battery, a process that on laptops can be tricky and should be done by some one who knows what they are doing.

Why do seamen consider high and low tides in their journey?

Because if the tide is high when docking, they might get stuck in their boat within 12 hours or 24 hours when the tide goes low.

Good luck on this thought process.

When switching on my dell inspiration2200 laptop on,the dell logo comes on then screen goes blank with small white dash on top left side flashing.have tried ctrl f11 several times

By pressing ctrl f11 after when the dell logo comes on, it will do a process to return your computer to its factory settings and will delete all the data in your computer. It will be back to the state when you first bought your computer. Just wait a little longer for the process to finish. If after an hour it does not do anything then the process has a problem. You will have to do a clean install. And to do this you need your Operating System install cd.

How do I get 8 hour battery life with acer aspire timeline 5810tz I am only using the internet when on battery power I don't think i am getting 8 hours The power smart key is on

This is kind of like when a car company says you get 34 MPG when you only get like 28. This is because they are running the computer at the most optimized settings. Mind you this doesn't mean the computer is functional, just running.... Each running process shown when you press Ctrl+alt+del is consuming power because that process occupies memory and power is consumed to keep that process there
So manufactures kill nearly everything but the bare minimum to keep windows running, and probably shutoff the LCD entirely. Leave the computer by itself and time it until it dies. They can then claim the computer runs for 8 hours. When in fact in a useable state probably runs for 4 or 5 hours maybe

I have a Dell Latitude C610, some programs run dead slow!

Wow! 24 hours to run a virus check -- that's a long time. Let's see if we can find out what is causing your laptop to run so slow.

I understand you've doubled the ram ... It is now at least 2gb?

Please look at the following at the event viewer logs to see if anything looks out of the ordinary. (Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer ... look at the Application and System Log in particular).

Is there any process in particular sucking up the processor? Press Ctrl-Alt-Del then open up the the task manager. Choose the processes tab, then click on the CPU tab until it is sorted with the highest process on top. What process/processes are taking up the utilization - ideally, system idle process will be in the 90s.

Please report back so we can resolve your issue. Thank you.

the only option in this case is that you can try running a test on the hdd for its failure otherwise you have to reformat the computer.
