Question about Apevia Lithium Ion Battery Pack 4400 mAh for Acer Aspire 1800, Acer Aspire 1800WLM, 1800WLMi, Acer Aspire 180 (L18650AS18) Notebooks
The problem seems to be that there is no power whatsoever going into the machine. I initially thought it was the power plug so I tested it on another machine and it worked fine, so I took the battery out and powered it off the main... And still nothing. Any ideas?
There is one thing you can attempt before seeking repairs. You should try a power reset.
1) Unplug the AC adapter
2) Remove the battery
3) Hold down the power button for 30 seconds and then release it
4) Insert battery
5) Plug in AC adapter and see if the laptop can power on
If it does not power on, you may need to seek support with Acer.

Sounds as if the power pin (inside the computer) is damaged. The part is under $ 10 but the labor is gonna be a hundred to two hundred bucks. You can, if you are careful, fix it yourself.
You can also get a JerkStopper cable retention device to hold the cable in the correct position until you get the pin fixed. The cable retention device is designed to keep you from damaging the pin by pulling on the power cord. In this case, it sounds like it's too late for that.

sounds to me like you need to restore your bios settings to default. if you can get into bios usually by pressing delete then it shouldnt be too hard. if that dont work the next easiest thing to do is to take out the battery that is inside the laptop somewhere on the motherboard! this will clear bios settings after about 2 or 3 mins of being out make sure the computer has no other power going to it when you take out battery

It seems to me that your Processor of the Laptop has got effected to and unbalance current supply. As you know that replace processor would work i would suggest you to claim its waranty before replacing new processor.

You need to take out the battery and try to power on the laptop with out it in..If it works then the battery is poched. Maybe the power supply you bought is wrong one? Did you buy it from dell?

There are three possible reasons why your computer is experiencing this power problem. What you need to do is to isolate the component that's causing it.
These are the parts which should be checked:
1. Power supply
3. Motherboard of the laptop.
Here's the procedure that you have to follow:
1. Remove the battery from the computer.
2. Power the computer up with the power cord only without the battery on it.
3. Check if it works perfectly without any problems even if the battery is out. If it works, then, the battery needs to be replaced. (Note: Batteries are disposable parts. They usually die after 2 years of usage depending on how you use it.)
4.If no go even without the battery on it, check the ac adapter or cord if there's a light lit on the box of the cord. If no lights on it, double check the connection. If connections seem ok but no power, then, replace the power cord.
5. If power cord seem fine, check the hole in the computer where you plug in the cord. What you need to check is if there are any sign of damages. Wiggle the cord and see if there are lights lit in the laptop.
I hope this help.

Testimonial: "Thanks a lot. It works with adapter without the battery. But how can I know that it is the battery and not the motherboard that causes the problem?"
