Is the printer connected on one of the pc's with a peer to peer network solution

or

Is the printer connected on the router?

If it's connected to one of the pc's you need to make sure both your computers are in the same ip range like

192.168.1.x where x is one of the pc's. X is also unique.
can also be like 10.0.0.X
It's important that the first 3 digits are the same.

Then it's advisable to have the same workgroup with you can find in your network settings. Depends on the Operating system where it is.

Then you need to go to the properties of your printer on one of the computer and share it with a name. REMEMBER the name

Then on the other computer if the ip-range is good, workgroup is the same you can find it under network devices. Or add printer then network printer and type in the name of the printer which you remembered.

Cant connect by wireless printer to my computer it ssid what do that mean i have a router

If you are trying to connect to the printer wirelessly, and you also have a router, unfortunately you will have to either switch between two networks (the router and the printer) or plug your printer into the router (via Ethernet)

I want to connect a wireless Cannon printer to a Toshiba laptop, do I need a certain type of router? I have WiFi and WWAN internet connection, do I still need a router?

The printer needs to be connected to a router.
The router has to be wireless.
The laptop should then be connected to the router in order to install.

The printer shoul have an option to search and connect to a wireless router. After searching an connecting, you have to connect the laptop to the router and install the printer as an network printer.

Internet no longer working, but internal network is fine.

i agree with all the above.. it's definately clear as mud how the network is designed and or funtioning. The machines connected to the wireless d-link router.. are they via cat5 inthe wired ports or wireless ? is the server the machine thats connecting to the switch and wiress router and modem? i'd say reset all switches modems routers and machines.. shut them all down.. then fire the cable modem, then the wireless router then the desktop switch then the server, the workstations and the one lonely wireless.. run "ipconfig /all" on all machines and if they aren't all sharing common ips and access, provide the results here for further investigation.

Setting up printer on home network

Because your printer is not either wireless or network capable, the only way to get the results you need is to purchase a usb print server, hook it to your router, set it up through it's management console, and if your router is wireless, you can hook up to your router and print to your printer with your desktop turned on or off.

This printer can print wirelessly across a network, and/or across a USB cable to one printer. The printer is set up for wireless use by connecting it to a computer with USB, and after it is set up you SHOULD be able to access it across your wireless router. If you look at items on the router, you will see this printer there too, with its own IP address. When you set the printer up in Windows, set it up as though it is a network printer. Looking under Ports, making sure that the correct item is checkmarked.

When i try to print wirelessly from my laptop it says its not communicating with printer. I have downloaded a d link wireless router to computer and i don't know why it isn't working?

Hi nataliejm3,

Assuming that you already added the printerto your desktop, you will need to add the MAC address of the printer to your router.

Hope this helps and good luck.

I suggest you network the printer and access it through the wireless access point.

Also, I do not mean to insult your computer smarts, but if you do not have a driver installed, you will not be able to talk to the printer at all.

Hi Ed, if your using windows you can open network connections & run network setup wizard. Follow the instruction for a home network for the wireless PC's & notebooks. Once the network is setup for all PC's than you can install the printer cd software in the PC's that you want to access the printer. Each PC & notebook will have access to the printer through the network.
The PC that that is connected to the printer needs to be shared.
Open printers and Faxes. Right click once on the printer & left click sharing. Agai follow the instructions.
Lastly,I strongly suggest you setup security for your wireless. If you do not anyone close can tap into your network connection. Follow linksys instruction to setup security. If you run into a problem you can call linksys for free advise from a pro. Their number is listed in the manual.
