Question about Zenith IQB36B42W TV

Open Question

Zenith 27" tv

Dark picture cannot be brightened/lightened with controls available. occasionally there is a red "shadow" that also I cannot eliminate.
with the advent of digital requirements, I am guessing it will not be worth having this unit serviced. wonder if there is anything to do to fix the above, inhouse??

SOURCE: Dark picture after storm.

Dark picture? hmm.
meaning there is no brightness variation, assuming this is the fault I think U might be having low screen voltage. Check for high value ( around 2W) resistor, preferably from 100K to 680K on the "C" board or neck board. Post back

SOURCE: I think my picture tube is going out on my Zenith System 3 Tv

Hi, Sorry it took someone so long to get back to you, but nobody likes to give bad news. This tv has a 1.7R tube with 530 resolution and an NTSC tuner which means it is analog and with the new change this month you would need a converter box anyway unless you have cable or satellite. Because of this particular tube and the labor to change it, it would indeed more expensive to replace it than buy a new one. Best of luck to you!

Zenith SL2773W problem

The dark rectangle appears because you have the closed captions on and set to TEXT. Closed captions set to CC1 puts the words on the screen and TEXT puts a black box on the screen. Go into the menu, navigate to the page with closed captions and set your captions to OFF.

Zenith TV has me seeing red.

The red gun in the picture tube itself is shorted on. You will have to replace the picture tube itself to fix the problem. Probably want to just buy a new set. Sorry!

GE Television Dark Shadows

If you are comfortable working inside the set, I can suggest the following:

1) Open up the back and locate the flyback transformer (part with large red wire coming out the top). There should be 2 adjustment posts on the back of it.

2) adjust the top one slightly clockwise as you are facing ht back of the TV. This should cause the overall picture to brighten. Don't turn it too much as you will then see the "retrace" lines.

3) Adjust the lower one to focus the picture.

That should help a bit. If not, then the picture tube is probably at the end of its life. Keep me posted with your results.

Picture is dark

sitnlisten - yes it does appear your pix tube is getting weak, but we may be able to turn up the flyback alittle to brighten up the picture. If you take the back off you will see the flyback-large black unit with a wire going to the round rubber cap on the back of the pix tube.Look at the flyback there are usually 2 adjusters one marked focus the other screen, just turn up the screen a little bit at a time.If you turn this up too much you will wind up with retrace lines on the screen. You may also want to check the pcboard ass'y for a sub bright adjust, and same thing small adjustments. If this don't help your pix tube may be too far gone.I hope this helps. cooltek Feb.1/08

Dark and red picture

First you can up the screen voltage, by finding the HV transformer. It has Screen and Focus control on it this it the Transformer that is in back of set and has an anode lead going to Picture tube. Come up on the screen control slowly and if the picture brightens with vertical lines then it's too high, The red problem is a small transistor that maybe located on the CRT board. It's probably shorted. There are about 3, each going to the different colors Red, Blue, Green.

it's unual for all 3 crt's to go bad at same time, so have you tried turning up screen(G2) control? If so also there is a cap in the high voltage line that when replaced may lighten up set. Don't have model so I can't go further.

The picture is dark

Hi This could be one of three possibilities, one the High Voltage Screen Adjustment is off, Two the Picture Tube is Weak, or Three there is a problem with the Video Drive Amp/Amps, these are things that should be checked or adjusted by a qualified technician, especially the High Voltage Screen Adjustment, hope this helps.
