My Dell Inspiron 600m laptop won't start up all of a sudden -- it was fine until just last night. When I try to power it on, the 'uppercase' light begins flashing for a few seconds before stopping. I even opened the memory case at the back, removed and replaced the memory cards... but still nothing. Any help (and soon) would be appreciated!
I have the same problem with my Inspiron 600m. The power plug seems not working and I have changed a few of power cord and none of them helped. How do we fix it

I had this same problem with my 600m laptop. How many times do the lights flash, before they stop flashing?
Cause: There is a physical problem with the computer that it is detecting at startup diagnostics.
Solution: You should have two pieces of RAM installed. Carefully, remove the memory slot cover. Swap the 2 pieces of memory you have in there (please follow memory installation and removal for laptops to the letter, by never touching any of the electronic contacts and handling the memory from its sides). Make sure, they sit in the slot properly (to the best you can see). Then, place back the memory cover, very carefully, and screw in. If you see the memory door cover not closing properly, the RAM might be improperly inserted. Please go back to the swapping of RAM step. :)
If this didn't work, 1 of the 2 RAM's you have are no longer functioning properly. Please follow the steps to openning the memory door again and remove RAM in "B" slot first. Then close it and try to start the computer.
If it still doing the same light flashes, open the memory door and remove RAM in slot "A". then place the RAM you removed from slot "B" into slot "A". Then start the computer again.

there are steps to resolve this issue ...
first of all remove all the usb devices and start the system and it should go to the desktop
shut the system back and start the system on the dell logo start tapping the delete key and that will take u on the bios screen there u will find USB emulation put it to no boot and save and exit and restart and than connect the devices to the system ... restart to make sure its working fine
It could be the charging port is loose or has gone bad outrightly. If it is shaky or has a dry joint, then try scrapping off the solder and resoldering ok. Power down the pc and then to AC supply to see whether it charges. If it does, then you probably have a corrupt operating system and should be re-installed. If the RAM becomes unstable, it could also come with such a problem. Hence, I suggest too that a confirmed working and compatible memory should be tried on your pc. If all failed then your motherboard is bad and should be replaced. Good luck
The system may not be able to refresh after the defrag. Press ctrl-alt-del and try to turn the computer off from the task manager. If task manager wont popup. You can turn the computer off by holding the power button for 10 seconds or until it turns off.
To prevent file corruption which could be caused by the improper shutdown which you will have to do. Don't forget to tap F8 repeatedly when you restart the computer. Start tapping after you push the power button to turn it on. Choose 'last known good configuration' using the arrow keys on the keyboard. Press enter. And wait until the computer reboots. It should come back to normal.
If it still locks up. Run diagnostics and check if your hard drive is still ok. Turn the computer off. Tap F12 when you turn it back on. Choose diagnostics. If you get an error for 'DSt short test' call dell, so they can give you options for replacement. If all the tests passed, your software is corrupted. Post back what happens.
Two things you can do. 1- remove the battery and try starting with the supply only. Dell batteries are notorious for causing a no start. 2- remove the memory and try starting with one chip in one then the other slot, then try the other chip. A bad memory chip can also cause a no start. If these don't correct the problem, then it's going to be with a motherboard component, most likely the power management system. You will need to take it in for a professional diagnostics in order to trace the exact problem area.
