Question about Canon PIXMA iP1600 Printer

3 Answers

E. 5100, green orange... (4) When lid lifted ink stays on rt.

Power was unplugged when the ink was on the left (replace) side. After turning off and restarting printer iP-1600, the message for four flashing lights says ink may be out. But when the lid is opened, the ink stays on the right, so I can't check if it is loose connected. When I turn off the printer and restart, the ink makes one right to left and back motion, followed by a clicking sound like a "switch". Then, the green orange green orange lights flash (four total each set).

Is this a sequencing error? If so, how can I reset the defaults. JAA

Dear Ginko: Success! The problem was that little white Nylon hinged piece, with the wire whisker spring. I was mopping around in there with cotton on a stick and must have pushed that part too far toward the near side for the little spring to make it work. The part looked out of place, so I pushed it down and the ink carrier freed up to slide on the track. Thanks for being a genius!

Try unplugging the power cable again and playing with carriage, I think the problem may concern mechanics, in that case reset won't help.

  • Ginko
    Ginko Jan 02, 2009

The clicking sound may be the traction belt slipping, and the carriage may be stuck on a side.

Start by unplugging the power cable, and try the reset and the powercycling suggested.

If that does not work, it means that there is a fault, and the print must be taken apart to fix the problem.

Printer is running out of ink. To put new cartridge in I lift the lid and normally cartridge carrier moves over to left allowing replacement of cartridge. Today no movement---why? Green light is flashing...

Hi there.

It's probably jammed by dirt. Unplug the printer, move the carriage out of the way and clean thoroughly the metallic rails the carriage runs to using a cue tip.You might have to move the carriage multiple times to clean it totally. Finally spread a little fine grease over the metallic rail and again move the carriage from side to side. Now plug it in and try using it.

Let me know what happens.

Waste ink absorber is full

Hi Good day!!!
Two absorber pads are located on the right side of the printer, under the ink cartridges. With the printer on, lift the top to expose the cartridges. They will automatically move out of the way. You can move them to the left side by hand if the printer is not on. You will probably need a flashlight to see the pads. They each sit in a rubber retainer. The pads can be removed very easily and cleaned. Take the pads out of the retainers with tweezers. They clean up nicely with warm water but you can use something like Simple Green if they are stubborn. It is best to use a spray bottle (on stream) and blast it through the pad until it is white. Sometimes just putting it under a running faucet will do the trick. If there is ink in the rubber retainer after taking the pad out, it can be cleaned up with a paper towel. Put the pads back into the retainers and you have successfully cleaned the ink absorbers. Now you may have to reset the error message so you can get back to printing. This is how to do it.

Following is the procedure to reset the waste ink counter for the Canon Pixma MP150

1) With the printer powered off but connected to a power source, press the Power button while pressing and holding
the Stop/ Reset button.
2) When the Power is lit, press the Stop/Reset button two times while pressing and holding the Power button.
3) When releasing the Power button and the Stop / Reset button (regardless of order), the printer will move into a
service mode. (Waiting for menu selection)
4) When the on/off lights in green, press the Stop/Reset button the specified number of time(s) according to the
function listed in the table below.(Each time the Stop/Reset button is pressed, the LED lights alternately in
orange and green, starting with orange.)note: press 4 times for waste ink counter reset.

Canon PIXMA iP1000 - Service Error 5100

It means that the waste ink absorbers are filled and you will need to replace them and take the machine to a service center.. Well thats what Canon says,, then when you get there they say buy a new one..

Any way forget them try this..
1.) unplug machine (power cable from back of printer.
2.) hold the power button down and plug cable back in.the printer light will stay on ,,
3.) still holding power,, press the paper feed button.. light will change to orange
4.) press paper feed button again.. It will turn to green
5.) release power button and enjoy..

Depend on the the firmware skip step 4...

That will bypass canons firmware and reset the counters.. Print as you will now..

Error Code 6A00

I have the Canon Pixma iP4000R printer. I had an error code of 6A00 and my power light was blinking/flashing green-orange-green-orange-green-orange-green-orange-green-orange-green-orange-green-orange-green-orange-green-orange-green-orange-green-orange-green-orange (12 oranges).

I tried the “waste ink counter reset reset” procedure: Power on while holding the stop/reset button and pushing the service button twice, then pushing the stop/rest button 4 times to clear the error, but that didn’t work.

My ink cartridge carrier wasn't moving-staying in the center. I thought I had a paper jam.

I looked at a few blogs about my error on other Canon Pixma models and they kept talking about “sponges”.

The following is what I discovered that cleared my error and now my printer is back to printing!

The “sponges” are 2 hard pieces of absorbing plastic or something of the like. I was looking for a softer material like the long thin gray foam strip material in my printer. The 2 "sponges" on my Pixma iP4000R were next to each other-one was rectangular and one was square-like. Originally they were white but the ink made them black/navy.

The "sponges" are located on the right under where the ink cartridge carrier "rests".

I didn't see the sponges at first, as there was a white backwards “L” shaped plastic piece that had a spring attached to it. The “L” shaped piece was moved forward out of its place. I used my pen tip and pushed that piece back and found that the rectangular "sponge" had popped out of its place.

I used a pen tip popped both “sponges” out and rinsed them with water and voila they were once again white. I think the rectangular one had so much ink on it it popped itself out of place.

My error is gone and I can print again!
