The unit was built bt LG. It is a computer controled unit and the timer is built into the main control board on back of the unit. However, the most likely cause of the broblem is the defrost terminator located on the evap on the upper right hand corner. Also, try unpugging the unit it will reset the computer board. You will also have to defrost the unit.

How do I cool it? Model 596.67272790

on rare occasions your refrigerator can become stuck in defrost cycle. you can find the defrost timer on the bottom front of your refrigerator behind the louver guard near your feet you will need to pull that off and from there you want to turn the timer clockwise slowly and see if it will go and start the compressor and begin cooling again.
Defrost Timer R0131577
then if that's not the problem we need to remove the paper cover in the back of the refrigerator near the floor and feel the compressor to see if it's hot warm or not running at all if you feel the top and it's too hot to touch then you possibly have a start relay and capacitor problem. here's the link to all of the parts for your model

Kenmore sidebyside 53552200 stoped cooling and defrosted completly light still works both frezer and refrigerator not getting cold

It could be stuck in defrost. Check your defrost heater, and see, if it is still hot. If it is, then the defrost timer is stuck. When it goes into defrost, everything, stops working, but the defrost heater and light. As long, as the defrost timer is on, nothing else will work, as far as the compressor, freezer fan, and any cooling/freezing.

Defrost is stuck in one all time it not cooling or freezing

A DEFROST TIMER is a cycling device, it times the frequency and duration that the defrost heater coils melt the ice that builds up around the evaporator coils. If ice is allowed to build up, air will not be able to freely flow past them - resulting in reduced efficiency and sometimes a drastic warming of the cooling unit.

zjlimited_1583.jpg

Most of the time, the defrost timer is in the cooling mode, allowing the compressor to activate when the thermostat signals it to. The remaining part of the cycle (usually less than 30 minutes)the timer is in defrost mode. In this mode, it signals the defrost heaters to melt the ice build up on the coils. This defrost action is limited by the defrost thermostat. If your DETROST TIMER go to bad, one symptom would be if your refrigerator is not cooling. Although there are many causes of this symptom, A stuck defrost timer can be one of them. The timer can get stuck in cooling (compressor activated) or defrost mode (defrost heaters activated) for usually two reasons:
- The timer motor can fail for one.
- The gears can also become locked up.

No matter what the reason is or which mode the defrost timer gets stuck in, the refrigerator can stop cooling. When the refrigerator is stuck in defrost mode, the compressor no longer comes on to cool the unit. If the timer gets stuck in cooling mode, the evaporator coils never get a chance to defrost, causing ice build-up to the point where there is a complete blockage of airflow past the coils.

The defrost timer can also cause the refrigerator to stop cooling due to failure of the internal switch which activates either the compressor or heater coils. Finally, when doing any repair on a refrigerator, check the condenser coils for dust buildup and clean accordingly.

According woth yur brand and model, look the part replacement in this link: partselect.com/refrigerator+test-defrost-timer+repair.

Good luck.

My kenmore side by side refrigator has stopped cooling on both sides, you can here is click like the compressor is trying to run it cliks about 1 or 2 seconds then clicks again like on and off.sounds to me...

if the first three numbers are 106. on the model number it sounds like the start device on the compressor is bad, part number 8201799 and it's around 55 bucks, unplug the machine, remove the bottom back panel, you'll see the compressor, there will be a metal clip, pop it off with a screw driver and then slide the start device off the compressor,if it smells burnt or if you shake it and hear pieces rattling around it's cooked, also there's a timer in the fridge side, when you first open the freezer door the fan should blow,if it doesn't the timer could be stuck in defrost, with a screw driver you can turn the timer until it clicks and it will come out of defrost,if it starts then you have a bad timer that's stuck in defrost, but i'd put my money on the start device if the clicking is coming from the compressor area and it's not starting, let me know how you make out and as long as it's warm unplug it so you don't damage the pins on the compressor

Stopped cooling.

It is possible the cold control has gone bad. Or the defrost timer is stuck in defrost, or even the compressor has gone bad.

Kenmore won't cool down.

I you might have a defrost problem. Frost free models have a heating element that is controlled by a timer to automatically defrost ice, defrost timer turns on defrost heating element every 12 hours to melt ice in freezer and allow good air flow.
You can test defrost element with an ohm meter(located inside freezer coils-will have two wires going to a plug connection), if OK replace defrost timer (located in various places depending on make and model

Refrigerator and freezer quit

Possible problem may be that you knocked a wire off or the compressor while cleaning or, loosened up or knocked off the plug on the defrost timer. Other possibilities are that the compressor lost a valve or broke a rod from operating under too much pressure and heat over a long period of time. The defrost timer could be bad as well and stuck on defrost. If equipped, the condenser fan may not be running. It's back by the compressor and may be bad, stuck obstructed or unplugged.
You can tell if the compressor is running by placing your hand on it while it's supposed to be running. Avoid the wires. If you feel it vibrating and there's no cooling or if it's really hot and not cooling, the compressor is done or, you sprung a leak while cleaning it. A refrigeration tech will have to check it from there since further tests will require gauges and electronic meters to test the compressor and the electrical components.

Kenmore Not cooling

there are 2 common problems with this frig. one is the defrost timer getting stuck in defrost. in this case all lights will work but no fans and no compressor running. the other problem is the relay overload on the side of the compressor but if this is bad the fan inside the freezer will be running. sounds like defrost timer
