When I turn my monitor on, the LED light at the bottom blinks off and on, but there is no display. I keep turning the switch off and on and finally the screen begins to display. I have a warranty, but can't find it and Staples (where I bought it) said they can only go back a year on my card. Is this just a switch problem or is there anything I can do? ♠

Dell backlight indicators

A computer monitor has a front-mounted LED that displays its current status and flashes in the event of an error. When an error occurs, the flashing may be accompanied by an error message on the screen. If the screen does not display an error message, the problem most likely falls into one of four common categories.

Unsupported Display Mode A video card has the ability to send output to the monitor at many display resolutions and refresh rates. However, no single monitor is capable of supporting every possible display mode. When the video card sends an unsupported display mode to the monitor, the monitor shuts off to prevent damage and blinks, or displays an error message. Standby Mode b> When a monitor detects no video signal from the computer, it assumes that you have turned the computer off and enters standby mode to reduce power consumption. Dell and HP monitors display an amber light when in standby mode. The status light on an Apple monitor blinks slowly. Incorrect Power Supply Some monitors such as certain Apple Cinema and Studio displays use external power adapters. Because different power adapters may have similar connectors, these monitors are designed to detect when an incorrect power supply is connected and blink the status LED rather than attempting to turn on. In the case of an Apple display, the LED blinks in an alternating short and long pattern. b> Backlight Failure b> A flat panel LCD display has an LED or fluorescent backlight that illuminates the pixels and makes it possible to see the contents of the screen. If the backlight fails and requires replacement, the monitor is unable to display any information. In some cases, you may be able to resolve this issue by turning the monitor and computer off, disconnecting and reseating all cables. If the monitor still has a backlight issue, it requires professional service.

LG 700E monitor's power LED blinking continueously, no display

The monitor is probably on protection.

To start unplug monitor from power and from computer and test computer with different monitor to find out if it is monitor or computer fault.

If it is computer fault and no video signal , then test:

  • Video cable.
  • Video adapter on PC (sometimes integrated on motherboard)
  • Motherboard.

If it is monitor fault , then the monitor is on protection.

When on protection you keep having a flashing led on front of the monitor , and monitor turning off by itself after a while, that indicates a fault condition.

The flashing light indicates a diagnostic state called protection.
When the Monitor goes on protection there are only two possible causes.

1The internal circuits are jammed because of electrostatic charges accumulating on capacitors, or because of a wrong voltage read by the main chip on your monitor controller board. this started the protection circuit.

2 The protection circuit detected a wrong voltage or a broken contact, identified an internal fault and kicked in , starting the flashing light.

If you are in situation one, then the monitor will reset just unplugging power cord for one or two hours, sometimes even minutes.

If you are in situation 2 , then there is an internal fault.

Common faults that can occurr are a blown capacitor on power board, faulty inverter board, faulty input board, or a fault on LCD Digital Controller board.

Check also the video cable or any external connection cable, if the cable is shorting, or the connector is bad, you can get same flashing state because of the video cable.

Try moving the video cable, and if the cable is not built in, then also try a replacement cable.

If under warranty contact the manufacturer ringing the number on the user manual

If you want to repair at your own expenses, just locate any good qualified repairer.
