Whirlpool washer will not drain

My whirlpool washing maching model LA5280xtw0 will not drain. Timer appears to be working OK. Will go through other cycles but hangs up on drain cycle. Makes a buzzing sound and then smells like something burning/electrical

Well i think you should be looking in the filter? Or in the pump. These are the only thiongs that will stop it from draining or spinning! The machine will not spin if it has water in it. It will go into spin inhibit to protect the machine. Check for lost items and then look at pump/filter if nothing then replace the pump then you will be ok.

Washer stops during normal wash cycle for a minute or more, and then continues. Would replacing the timer fix it?

If it actually goes on and finishes the cycle and that really bothers you replace it. If not leave it alone and allow a little more time to complete its cycle. The lid switch only keeps the spin cycle from going with the top open.

Won't fillCalypso whirlpool washer model#GVW9959KQ1 LD on display

LD is long drain error, the machine does not fill because it is in fault mode, but error is on drain system.

If there is a drain problem, the parts that must be checked are drain hose, pressure switch, drain pump assembly, timer control.

Check if the drain hose at the back is kinked or blocked.

Test the pressure switch, blow into the small hose, and use a multimeter to check if switch has continuity.

Remove access panel and get to the drain pump hose to check for ablockage. You will need to disconnect the hose and collect the water.

Keep a container ready to collect water when you undo pump hose.

Ifall the rest is OK, test and eventually replace timer board.Problemwith water pump are far more commonly causing this problemsthenfaulty timer board.

Parts and diagrams available here.

Kenmore 70 washer, does not move from one cycle to another

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

This appears to be a timer / timer motor problem.

I'd also look at the Whirlpool / Kenmore direct drive installation and maintenance manual for testing the timer.

Wont advance to rinse

you may want to inspect further the unit such as if there is still water remaining after the wash. You may have a drain pump that is not working properly or the water level sensor is not working correctly. The water level sensor normally appear as a float device. In some models they show up as a tube that goes out to the control unit.

Whirlpool Washer Won't Drain

Did you replace the timer motor? The little motor attached to the timer that moves it thru the cycles. Also, I would check to see if the water level switch might be stopping it after the wash/rinse cycle. I've attached a URL that will show you the various components. If you need more help, feel free to post.

Washer machine drains while filling

If the pump is actually coming on at all times, then I imagine this machine has a completely electronic control system ? - i.e. No mechanical timer ? - If this is the case, then the switch that controls the pump is an electronic solid-state device, or, more rarely, a relay on the board. Looks like you'll need a new power board.
