Question about Maytag Neptune MAH5500B Front Load Washer
My Neptune was purchased in 1998 and has been great until lately when it goes into spin cycle. It's always been loud but now it's incredibly loud. I called a repairman and he said it's the gears and said it would cost about $350 to fix. He told me that without an onsite visit. He said he could come out charge me for the call and tell me the same thing. He recommended buying a new washer...and said Whirpool was the best one on the market.
Do you agree?
I agree with his diagnosis. The rear bearings have gone bad and will eventually either seize or start ripping through the outter tub. It is expensive to replace. However It is worth replacing. You will spend a similar amount of money or more on a new machine. The guy you called probably doesn't want to do the job and just said buy a new one. Also whirlpools and maytags at this point are one in the same about 1 year ago maybe alittle more whirlpool bought maytag so you will see more washers that look like whirlpools with a maytag name on it
