Question about Whirlpool Duet 7.0 Cu. Ft. Super Capacity Plus Gas Dryer
Model is WGD9600TW, Gas dryer, brand new only 6 months ago. This dryer has never worked properly. We've had two service companies out 4 different times. First some sensors replaced, no difference. Then the first guy said the vent system is too restrictive. (It was just fine on the old dryer). We didn't believe him. so we called another service company, he said the same thing. when the dryer is disconnected from the vent, it works normally. He removed front panel, we can see the flame. When connected to vent, the flame is "fat" and short, it contacts the "high-limit" switch, so the flame cycles on for 5 seconds, then shuts off. this repeats endlessly, so the dryer never warms up. When exhaust is disconnected (dryer vents into the room with no restriction), the flame is "skinny" and long, so it remains lit. Of course, you'll die if you breathe the fumes!
So I replaced a restrictive periscope in the exhaust vent with a nice new elbow (Whirlpool brand exhaust system, Whirlpool part number 4396028), made sure the vent run is clean (brushed it out with a rotary brush and drill motor), and tried it again. BTW, the exhaust run is about 12 feet, I use the heavy-duty metal flex tubing (exactly what's on that part number above) for the entire run, only a couple of bends, all bends are very gradual, no kinks, etc. I even removed the louvers on the outside vent. There is a nice strong breeze coming from the vent now. It is NOT restrictive.
The dryer is still not working. No difference. the flame kicks on and off.
The tech said the new dryers are sensitive to exhaust vent backpressure, because they blow much more air through than the older ones. Fine, but if it's so damn sensitive that it cannot withstand 12 feet of non-restrictive vent tubing, something is wrong with the design.
So, if you have a gas dryver that's cycling the flame on and off rapidly (5 seconds on for about every minute or so of running), try disconnecting and see what happens.
I am going to call Whirlpool and demand to speak with someone who can deal with this issue. Either they get me another machine, or I'll demand a refund and buy another brand. This is ridiculous.
Hi I have the same problem
Bypassed the hi limit switch and it runs fine
service teck replaced board, thermistor, all vents, gas coils , flame sensor and glo coil andf all with no luck. Unless it is bypassed thed ryer will only stay on 5 to 6 seconds on gas cycle
If i plug my old dryer in and hock up to gas and vent it works fine
So im using my old dryer and this peice of **** is sitting beside it as Im not going to run this without the safety thermostat
If you find out please let me know
