Can i use a gps30 with 1715 furuno

You can interface the GP30 to the 1715 and get Lat/Lon readings where the cursor is. The GPS has extra wires in the power cable. The 1715 will require a NMEA cable pn 000-154-028. Connect the white GPS wire to the yellow radar wire and the blue GPS wire to the green radar wire.

I have tomtom in uk and i am going to india. so

Yes but won't be a very useful exercise. Because, you will have to purchase a new map of India, install it (provided you have an SD card slot) or install it to the hard drive (provided you have the space) and switch the maps. Very easily said than done. Most important of all, I do not think, Tom Tom offers a map of India. It would be best to buy a cheap one that comes with mapmyInida maps pre-installed. My one suggestion would be look for a GPS where you can navigate by latitude and longitude input as an option. Since most towns/rural areas do not have street/Avenue intersections, locating your destination in Google and feeding that lat/lon to your GPS would enable you to use your GPS far better in those conditions. If you travel in Inida with a GPS on Lat/Lon inputs, I would definitely like to hear your experience. Send a Personal Message on anil_valayil@yahoo.com please. Check out Mapmyindia.com. Garmin seems to have India maps and GPS in the Rs. 8000/- range. Costlier compared to US prices though.

When I enter the lat and lon corridinates from the Garmin ETrex legend into google earth they seem to be about 50 miles off.

Make sure you are using the exact same format for both. Degrees and minutes are not the same as decimal degrees.

Latitude & longitude

Here is the way to find the Lat/Lon Info on TomTom.
Tap on main screen. You will be taken to Main menu 1 of 2. Tap on the arrow. You will move to Main menu 2 of 2. Tap on Browse map. You will see the lat/Lon info on the bottom left hand corner (of a selected location) Tap on another location and you will see that the lat/Lon will change to that of the newly selected location. You can use the slider on the right hand side to zoom in or zoom out so that you can get the Lat/Lon info of far off locations. However, for this purpose, google maps would be a better option. But if you know the address, use the find button which will give you easier access to Lat/Lon info.

Unable to load coordinates for a projected waypoint

There are two ways you can load a way point.

1. Hit mark on your GPS. Push up on your rocker until the coordinates are highlighted. Once they are hit enter. From here you can change the coordinates to what ever you want.

2. If you have the software (Mapsource Trip & Waypoint Manager) you can enter the waypoint by going to "Edit" then "New Waypoint" or hit Ctrl + W as a shortcut. Once you create all the points you need, plug in your GPS and turn it on, then click "Send to Device"

Make sure that your mapsource and GPS are both setup on the same datum and lat/lon style corrdinates as well or it could throw it off.

How do i insert a negative (-) deg co-ordinate into my nuvi 200

Positive Lat Lon coordinates are for the eastern and northern hemispheres respectively. If you have a negative coordinate, they indicate a location in the western or southern hemisphere.

To enter a Latitude coordinate of, for example, -31 degrees, you would enter 31 degrees, but specify S (for South) rather than N (for North)

Negative Lon coordinates would use W (for West) instead of E (for East)

Locating satellites

Hi cassyd

I have 2 questions in order to help.

1) It can take longer than 30 seconds depending on where you are, how long have you waited for it to acquire?

2) Are you holding the unit verticle while you wait for it to acquire?

If you know your lat/lon you can type that into the position screen while you are waiting for it to acquire, sometimes that helps.
