I there, i have read the comments what others have wrote.

and i must come to the conclusion that it must be a hardware error because when it is a virus than it schould work instantly and not after 90 minutes, no virus does that,

what u can do is this:

1) make back-ups from your important files, photos, and so on

2)when u have done that than put in your recovery dvd or cd

3)now boot your system with the recovery that wil clean your notebook to fabrics instalation

4)when done than u have a clean xp or vista on it, than u can install your software new on it

5)now comes the part to test, when after 90 in start again than we now its hardware and not a very ugly virus

6) if it starts than contact acer for a rma to repair your notebook

It sounds to me like your windows is corrupt and you need to remove it and reinstall from your disk.
Also, try running it without the battery in.(just plugged in to socket)

"menus start popping up, keyboard won't work "

possible reason for the fault

1 System fault/viruses

This fault is common, the only way to exclude this possibility is by doing a complete file backup, formatting the hard disk and reinstalling the system. Thes is the first step done on repair.

2 Faulty Touchpad /Faulty keyboard/ Faulty Ribbon cable.

This is a common fault that can cause menu popping up as if you click the mouse buttons, you fix this replacing the mousepad, or the keyboard and cables.

3 Bios fault

This is very rare, and is associated to extra functions on button, in this case the laptop performs actions associated with special keys while you type, I don't think this is your case, as it would do it all the time.

Do back up and reinstall the system, if you still get the problem, have the mousepad assembly replaced.

Then this is a problem with the Operating system (OS) you are using.Try to format the OS drive alone and the see if it makes any change. It wont take much time.Software backup nowadays is not a big problem as you get almost every software downloadable.Hope it works, will await your comments.

try this, go to the task manager.go to processes. it might take time but might work out for this case. try checking all the processes running currently. if it is a virus undetected by McAfee, it should still be running in the system. the processes have names like hkcmd.exe or igfxtray.exe or svchost.exe and around 50 other processes.go for a google search of these processes; just type the name in the search bar.if it brings out a good result, that should mean its an existing process; else that could be the virus.
this is because any anti-virus software is not programmed to detect all the existing virus. there might be some exceptions. Please do try this.i hope it works.will await your comments.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Of course an alternate possibility is a hardware fault. Could you try physically disabling the keyboard of the Acer and use an external keyboard?

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy New Year.

Bear with me, "physically disabling the keyboard" would refer to removing the connection of the flat cable from the KB assembly to the motherboard.

It sounds like a trojen or a worm, that has a delayed trigger, or a certain program or key combo is triggering.
Go here http://www.avg.com/ , pickup a trial of the home version, go into safe mode and run it from there, that should do it. They also offer a great "free" home user, version, but get the pro version so we can get rid of that infection first

Have you ran an anti-virus program to scan your computer?

if you have a virus program on your computer update the definitions and scan your computer. If it turns out it has nothing to do with a virus you should open the computer up and clean out all the fans and heat sinks. Just get a can of compressed air and blow them out. Make sure your computer is off and you ground yourself by touching the case before you touch anything internal.

then open the machine if it is not under warranty and blow the thing out and see if that helps

You can try to get a cooling base for your laptop or if you don't want that expense keep the computer elevated so the bottom of the computer has pleanty of airflow.

If none of the previos solutions have helped you then we should probably start looking into replacing your ram.

Power related issue certainly, sounds as though the charger may be suspect, but I'd need to know if you were running this on battery also.

The dimming of the screen could be down to a faulty backlight, but I have a feeling thet, given the issues you also decribe, that there is a problem with some of the capacitors on the motherboard, which are causing the power fluctuation. This is not good news if it is the case, as it means the motherboard needs to come out and be checked and maybe have new capacitors.

It could also man that there is a damaged or "dry joint" on one of the circuits that provide power to the laptop

How to change keyboard on acer 1650 laptop

usually it is quite simple. there is a cover where the power switch goes, and then some screws holding down the keyboard, usually small phillips head needed. then lift the keyboard gently, then carefully release the cable that connects keyboard to motherboard. and be careful about ESD on that board..

I have an acer aspire laptop, when i start it up its says configuring updates stage 3 of 3 0% complete then it will shut down come back on say the same again and shut down again. it will keep on doing this

Maybe you could try the last known good configuration. When the laptop is starting up, wait until the acer screen disappears and then tap F8 on the keyboard before the windows screen comes up. You should get a black screen with some options that say safe mode. The fourth or so option on the list will be "Last Known Good Configuration". The computer should try and load windows. Hopefully that will restore the machine before the update.

If it works it would be a good idea to go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ and fully update your laptop. This will download the update manually instead of doing it with automatic updates.
