Question about RCA 32V420T 32" TV

1 Answer

Tv troubles My daughter sprayed Renuzit all over the tv screen while it was on. Now it won't turn on with the remote and keeps turning on and off by itself. When we push the buttons on the tv it turns off and then on. But the on and off button does not work. Is there any way to fix this or is the tv ruined?

Re: tv troubles

The fluid has found its way down to the buttons. Slide the circuit board out and clean the switches with an electronic contact cleaner and toothbrush, it will evaporate quickly but make sure it is dried and give it a try.

TV Volume goes up by itself and remote wont work

There are 2 reasons that this is happening in respect to the problem commencing after your daughter has cleaned the tv. Either your daughter has sprayed the volume button with cleaner and fluid has got into the the graphite pad under the button and conducting as though the button is being pressed continuously..or she has put too much pressure on the button if it is a metallic plate contact switch. One way to find out is by pressing the down volume button.does it it click ? if it does.try the up volume..If that doesnt click the problem is the metallic plate is dented in making contact hence a new switch. Another cause ive seen is cleaning the remote control with cleaner and fluid has got into the remote and it sends signals to the tv all the time..If the remote control is hidden under a cushion and the problem stops, then the remote control is at fault and needs drying out..Hope this helps :)

Our daughter gave us a Toshiba TV and remote. We plug in the TV and hook up the cable, and try to turn on the TV but nothing happens. We can turn on the TV with the TV button, and it works fine, but we would...

If the remote is the original Toshiba remote, it obviously should work the TV. Have you checked to make sure it has good batteries? Also, if old batteries leaked in it at any time there may be corrosion on the battery contacts keeping it from working. Make sure the metal contacts look shiny, not crusty and corroded.

If the remote still doesn't work there are two possibilities. One is that the remote is just bad. You can get a universal remote, set it for Toshiba and try it. It will at least control power, channel and volume functions. If the universal remote doesn't work, the remote sensor in the TV would be the probable cause. Like any other part, they can sometimes fail.
