Question about Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 ST380011A 80 GB Hard Drive

Barracuda hard drive issue

PC won't boot up in any mode. Acts like it's trying but then goes to blue screen. I bought a hard drive enclosure to grab pictures and music from hard drive before putting it into recovery. It spins up in the enclosure but then 1 of 2 things happens. When I try to look at it on my laptop (running Vista Home) it either doesn't show up at all as a listed drive OR when it does and I go to access its' contents I get "disk unreadable/ corrupted". SO now what? Is this particular Barracuda 7200.7 officially dead? I'm seriously frustrated... Thank you for any consideration.

Ok..just check all the cable and then attach the new hard disk..after that if u r getting d same probs thenjust check his hard disk in another system and if its OK then its means that BIOS is not supporting or either the fault is on your power supply.

Have you tried the hard drive outside of the enclosure? Maybe it just isn't compatible with it. Else something with the connector could be broken

Quite commonly on external drives the usb interface will go bad in the external drives the hard drive enclosed is probably functioning ok. Would try a different usb cord just to make sure the cord is not the issue. If still does not work you may need to purchase a new enclosure that will have a new usb interface circuit board with it. If taken in for service they will probably tell you to purchase a new external drive.
Here is a video on recovering data a side from an external drive. Some steps are not necessary if you have access to an ide/sata to usb adapter. These are pretty inexpensive on ebay as well as replacement enclosures.

What type of hard disk enclosure wll work for a 40 gig Seagate Barracuda ata IV drive?

I assume you want an external enclosure for this drive. Hard drives are built to standard dimensions and have the same power and data connectors, so any enclosure designed for a 3.5-inch IDE drive would work. Here's one I've bought several of for myself and others, and it's been reliable. There are many more available from many vendors. Just be sure you get one designed for IDE drives or that will take both IDE and SATA. If you get one meant for SATA only, the connectors inside won't fit your drive. Which enclosure you finally choose will depend on which you think is best (based on price, appearance, reviews, or whatever you look for), but any one will work.

Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 SATA driver problem

If the laptop is also XP, the drive should be recognized without problems. Sometimes this may not happen if the disk is unusually partitioned (could happen if you manually dual-booted it with Linux, for example). Verify the enclosure is working properly and has enough power supplied to, and that it appears in Device Manager. If all this applies, the enclosure must be considered working and the problem might be in the partitioning or disk access.

In XP Pro, do Start > Run Command > DISKMGMT.MSC and press OK. See whether the disk appears (if it doesn't, it's the enclosure, or its drivers - or the disk was dying and is now dead, but that's not very likely), select the NTFS or FAT32 partition - ignore any others - right click and mount the unit as drive, say, G.

If it doesn't work but the partition is found, you may need a more powerful tool such as Paragon Partition Manager.

Install a seagate 7200.7 in a cool max enclosure

They sure are !
You need an IDE or EIDE enclosure.

If you bought the enclosure very recently you may want to try taking it back and swapping it for another one

If its a big box store you might want to try the "it just doesn't work and I am clueless" routine
Seen that work quite a bit much to my dismay. Then the people usually get money back and go to another store to get the correct item.

NOTE I dont condone that method !

Try a “System Restore” to an earlier day you remember the computer was working fine, in the safe mode.

All the best!
