If nothing happens, the switch behind the button must be broken, or something on the PCB that the button is mounted to is broken. But if lights blink, then the button is ok and the problem is with the motor or some sensor. I have a troubleshooting guide for the dispensing system (better than Maytag ever published), as I was directly involved in the design of this product. This does not cover the refridgeration system, as that was provided by our Chinese manufacturer. Please email me at: firstname.lastname@example.org if anyone wants this guide.

mine did the same thing. apparently, if the internal unit gets too cold, it freezes operation in some of the buttons. try turning up the temp to let it thaw, then try the button again. the downside is that when you turn down the temp again, you are likely going to face the same problem.

I ordered a part on Monday night and installed it on Wednesday night.
The parts are not that hard to find.
Appliance repair services can replace your compressor or add freon.
Be sure you have plenty of ventilation behind your machine.
Since it's only one dispensor unit you should be able to eliminate "common" items and find out what controls just that one dispensor. The faint click may be from a bad relay (relay coil works but doesn't pass voltage on contacts). You will likely have to take the thing apart to check the control board. Here's a diagram of the unit so you can see where everything is at. I'd suspect the control board relay that controls that particular dispensor is bad or a loose wire, etc.
