You have to be able to get in to the bios in order to do anything. Did you try another monitor or try to reset the current one? Is there power?, the only thing you can try if you can't even get into safe mode or bios, is to first clear the cmos, by either moving the jumper "near the battery", from the two pins to the middle and last open pin, or removing the battery, making sure the machine is unplugged, not just shut down. Wait 5-10 minutes and make sure the jumper is the way it was before you moved it, if you moved it. Then start her up, let us know what happened, that should reset everything back to default .

I am happy I could help, if you could perhaps give me a fixya rating the 4 little green things, as that is how we are compensated, although they don't tell the client that, but 3 is only like "good try" where 4 means we got it done for you, thanks, unless we get 4 we don't get elevated to a level that is commensurate with being compensated

Monitor gos black turn off then back on video stays on 15 sec then off again

Hello
It could be a bad monitor or videocard ,the only way to test this is by connecting another monitor to that PC or your monitor to another PC.

Good Luck

Gateway one zx4351 screen does not turn on when i turn on the pc

I have to assume you get a power light on the monitor. If possible hook the monitor up to a different PC. If it works the problem is in the PC not the monitor. If not then the monitor is at fault. If the monitor see if there is an image on the screen by shining a flashlight on the face. If there is an image then the backlighting has failed. On desktop monitors it is usually the power board that lights the CCFL backlight lamps and it could be as simple as failed electrolytic capacitors that have swollen and failed. If so you could replace the capacitors or replace the whole power board. Of course most people opt to replace the monitor as a whole. If the monitor works fine then the video section is at fault. If it has a plugin video board then check to see if it's fully seated in the slot. If the video is integrated on the motherboard then motherboard replacement is needed.

The pc turns on but no image on screen sometimes, have changed memory modules.its seeing well you restart it and then no image, but pc is on

For a desktop, first try the monitor on another computer, preferably with a different video cable. If it doesn't show a picture; the fault is probably at the monitor. Also try a different monitor on the Gateway.

If these two tests show that the monitor is bad, replace it to use your computer for now. (If it is under warranty, consider warranty repair. Otherwise we can try to diagnose the problem. (Common problems for an LCD monitor are the power supply, the backlight, the backlight inverter or the main board itself. The inverter is the easiest part to replace and can be tested with an oscilliscope or a multi-meter that can measure several thousand Hz.)

If you get a picture, try the monitor on the first computer with the second video cable to rule out a bad cable.

If there is still no picture, the next step is to determine if the computer has a video card installed or if you are using the on-board video. Many computers have both so try plugging the monitor into the other ports if there are any. (The on-board video is disabled when you have a video card in place. When reconnecting the cables, it can be easy to plug into the wrong spot.) Check if the monitor is working.

Replace the video card with one appropriate for your computer (you will need the specs for your computer's PSU (original specs - 300W) and card slot (PCIe x16)). You need a card that doesn't require more power than the power supply can put out. (Remember the CPU and other components need power too. Card specs will include the recommended minimum power supply needed to run the card.)

If you can, get a card that matches the existing video card. This will avoid a major problem. You need to uninstall the current video card drivers to put in a new one. You can try booting into Safe Mode by pressing F8 as you power up the computer. (This can take several tries to catch the point where the computer looks for the keystroke. You only have a few seconds.)

If you have been using the on-board graphics, get a video card. You will need to press a key (F1 or F2 for most Gateways) to enter the BIOS then disable the on-board graphics when you install the new card.

I hope this helps.

It won't start it is black

Dell systems have built in no post diagnostics, you can check them here:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r4282412-find_no_post_diagnostic_information_dell

if the system is completing post, but not showing any display, then you have either a Video Card issue or a monitor issue. Things to check:
  1. Ensure the monitor has the proper input selected for the cable that is connected (VGA, DVI, DisplayPort etc)
  2. Reseat cable connections
  3. If system was recently moved, make sure cable connected to correct Video Card Connection (Some systems have 2, and if an expansion card is inserted, generally on-board video is disabled.)
  4. If still no video and system has both expansion and onboard video, remove the expansion card, try the on-board.
  5. If still no go, try a different monitor
  6. if all the above fails, replace video card

When monitor is turned on it says no signal for a second or two. then screen goes black and stays that way. monitor and cord have been tested with another cpu and worked

then your pc's video card has likely gone bad. first try powering off the PC, wait 30 secs and power on again. If you still get no display, and you know the monitor is good, you have a bad graphics card or some other hardware fault in the PC.

The light on monitor stays yellow

If your PC has started HDD flashing and there is power to the monitor this means that the video card has not told the monitor to display, its kind of like in standby you can get this if the onboard VGA is faulty.

If you have another basic VGA card insert this into a spare PCI slot while the PC is off and plug the monitor into this instead if this works your monitor is fine and looks like your VGA on the mobo is trashed, just buy decent 512MB PCI or AGP video card and use this setup instead.

Its also good idea to disable the on board VGA in the BIOS.
