Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, clean the encoder strip. The encoder strip is the narrow elongated clear plastic strip running left to right of the printer. It has barcode like markings that guide/tells the printhead its location. Clean to ensure no ink stains, smudges or paper bits sticking to it. It has to be clear since the printhead uses light passing through the encoder strip to establish its position.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

Check out if something is blocking the cradle to move .it can be any foreign odject or a small piece of paper or something like dust.just off the printer for a minute and on it again and check out.also check out whether the cartridges are connected/fitted properly.remove and reinsert the cartridges and then check.

I keep getting a mechanism error, stating that the cartridge cradle cannot move. When I lift the cover, the cradle moves just fine. How do I fix this?

Try cleaning the encoder strip with Sprayway Glass Cleaner, clean both sides till nothing comes off on paper towel. The encoder strip is the semi clear plastic strip that runs the width of the printer just behind the printhead cradle. You should be able to see through this strip but not like clear glass. This will also help with this printer if it is printing crooked images.

HP photosmart 8750 - cartridge cradle jamb error

You need to check the encoder strip, the clear plastic behind the carriage, ink or grease will stop it from reading and give that error. Also ink buildup on the clean station will slow it's travel.

Hold the power cord in your hand next to the wall outlet and open the service door.
When you here the clicking noise, that is the release for the tray arm.
Pull the power and try to move arm back and fourth. Close the service door and power unit.
Hope this works for you.

Print cartridge cradle is stuck ican't find where it is jammed

This might help . . . Mine finished printing one doc & then made a terrible noise & sent a message to my screen that "print cartridge cradle is stuck." When i opened door, i could see it was stuck off to the left side so left cartridge was obscured. I could not get it to budge, although i kept turning it off, gently pushing & turning it back on. Finally, i got my hand inside & determined that the little door to the left-side cartridge had popped open & was causing it to remain stuck. After some struggles (turn off printer first!) i was able to maneuver it around & close it tight. Now, all is well . . .
