Hi, lhurry....

you need to go to the menu bar... click 'tools' and select 'options' from the drop-down list. when you get the options dialogue, click 'advanced' then the 'network' tab. in the connection section click the 'settings' button and in the new dialogue select either 'no proxy' or 'detect proxy automatically'

that should do it!

Internet access

don't use IExplorer, use firefox or chrome. You do not need to know any proxy. Stay out of Lan settings. Make sure your ethernet cord is plugged in tight on both ends. That cord should show a green light when you look directly into the ethernet jack on your computer. You should be good to go then and connect to the internet.

If you do not know how to deselect some of the factory defaults before connecting it to the internet, you will be setting yourself up to get hijacked or worse. Have someone who knows a bit about PCs to help you.

Cannot access website

Why can't I view some websites?
Applies to Windows 7
If you can access some websites but not all of them, here are some possible causes:
  • Your browser could be attempting to connect through a proxy server. If so, try connecting with the proxy server turned off.
  • Your browser connection settings could be incorrect. To change connection settings, follow these steps:
    1. Open Internet Options by clicking the Start button 4f6cbd09-148c-4dd8-b1f2-48f232a2fd33_818.jpg, clicking Control Panel, clicking Network and Internet, and then clicking Internet Options.
    2. Click the Connections tab.

  • Your router could be attempting to proxy DNS requests and failing. Refer to the documentation that came with your router for instructions on disabling DNS proxying.
  • Parental Controls, Family Safety, or some other parental control software could be blocking access to certain websites.

Hi when i try to get on the internet it is telling that the page is not available or poxy is something when i checked that itis cornnected wifi it say cornnected signal execerllet

Do you have an Antivirus program? If so, some Antivirus activate a proxy on top of adding a firewall, check if your Antivirus is generating a proxy and deactivate it. Also, your Internet Browser (Interned Explorer, Firefox, Google Chrome, etc.) Might be generating a proxy as well, make sure they have the option disabled. Finally, make sure you didn't download a VPN software that adds a Proxy (such as Hotspot Shield) and make sure to disable it when you browse the web.

Why i can't connect in facebook using any browser?? in google chrome it says "Error 101 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_RESET): Unknown error"

Some sites attempted include: google.com, msn.com, engadget.com

I am confident the sites are up and running as I can open the same url within Firefox seconds later. Disabling the Web Filter on my Anti-Virus made no difference. I am Running ESet as my Antivirus.

Out of curiosity, I looked at the "LAN settings" under the Internet Properties / Connections tab and noticed that the proxy setting was enabled. I do not use a proxy from home. It was configured to point to the local host (127.0.0.1) on port 5555. I disabled the proxy setting and was able to browse without issue. Proxy setting is unique to Firefox and not shared with IE which would explain IE having issues as well.

Digging further I found that the "fake antivirus" application had created those settings along with some registry settings and dropping an executable on my system.

I found removal steps here: (3 sites)

What is proxy

Hi liverpool97.
Let me explain you about the Proxy servers.
In Computer Networks, a Proxy Server is a Server (a Computer system or an application program) that acts as an intermediary for requests from clients seeking resources from other servers.
A client connects to the proxy server, requesting some service, such as a file, connection, web page, or other resource, available from a different server.
The proxy server evaluates the request according to its filtering rules.
For example, it may filter traffic by IP address or protocol. If the request is validated by the filter, the proxy provides the resource by connecting to the relevant server and requesting the service on behalf of the client.
A proxy server may optionally alter the client's request or the server's response, and sometimes it may serve the request without contacting the specified server.
In this case, it 'caches' responses from the remote server, and returns subsequent requests for the same content directly.
Hope this helps.
Please let me know if you need further information about the Proxy servers.
I'll be glad to assist you.

  • Type a check the box 'Use the same proxy server for all protocols'
  • Click OK on advanced
  • Click OK LAN Settings

The proxy server is refusing connections

If it's a free proxy I would be very cautious. Many are run by hackers and will plant bots and other malware on your computer.
