Makes a funny noise

My Triton XL Model # - GSD6660G02SS Dishwasher makes a funny sound - sort of like brum brum brum brum.  The sound starts about 5-10 minutes into the cycle continues for about 20 minutes and then stops.  What do you think the problem is and how can I fix it?

Our GE Triton XL "moans and groans" through almost every cycle. The machine is only 4 years old and the "authorized' repairman cannot determine the problem.

I have Model GSD6200J01WW with the same problem.  The Groaning starts after filling and then comes and goes intermittently throughout the run time.  Very annoying!

I had the same problem with my Triton XL Model # - GSD6660G02SS Dishwasher. I tried adding water, zip tied each wash arm (one at a time) and had no positive result. Then I noticed a notch on what is called the docking cone. It supplies water to the middle wash arm. When the upper rack is pulled out you can see the cone at the back of the washer. Anyway I put a rubber O ring on this notch and the noise stopped. I can't tell from the parts list if the O ring is supposed to be there or not. Maybe a GE repair tech can confirm this. Hope it works for you as it did for me.

WOW - your fix worked!! I have a GE Triton XL model # GSD6600G02BB and it's bee making these same loud groaning noises for YEARS... in all cycles and for most of the washing process; and it was supposed to be a SILENT model that we spent more money on for that feature! I bought it about 6 yrs ago and we assumed it was something in the motor since it was that LOUD. Should have done something about it sooner. So last night I searched for similar issues and found your posting and I cannot believe that this solution WORKS!! Last night I first wrapped a good sized rubber band around the water cone outlet at the back of the washer that feeds water to the upper tray rotating arm and pushed back the upper tray and insured it had a fairly snug fit. After starting the washer there was NO NOISE!! What?!? I couldn't believe a noise that LOUD could be such a simple fix! I was ready to call a repairman and spend the big bucks! Today I went to Home Depot and bought this small $3 pkg of different size O-rings. I was hesitant to take the rubber band off since it was working so well, but I did and put one of the O-rings on and it too has FIXED THE PROBLEM! Doing dishes right now and can't hear a thing!! No more loud noise! Since the dishwasher did NOT make this noise when we first got it I have to assume there was an O-ring in this notch on the cone that wore off? Anyway, there is one more O-ring in my pkg that is the same size for future use. Mark - THANK YOU so much for posting this solution. You saved me some big cash! And I can't believe that GE would make a product that makes such a loud noise for such a small easy fix as a RUBBER BAND! Can you imagine paying a GE repairman $100 to come out to your house and he then takes a rubber band (or O-ring) out of his pocket and fixes it! I doubt I will buy another GE dishwasher..... although when I told the salesman at Home Depot about this he specualted that GE must know about this issue and likely have fixed it on future models? Does anyone know if this is true? Thanks so much again! John (10/17/2010)

Holy S..... Just sitting here listening to the Dishwasher Rumbling Away. It was driving me batty. Went to the closet door, grabbed the thickest rubber band we had and stuck it on the water cone outlet. No more rumbling ... and this has been going on for five years.
    Mark. You're a genius.
    Thanks a Million.

Thanks, Mark. Pulled apart my whole dishwasher checking the sump drain and everything. Can't believe I wasted all that time when it was a 1 minute. Using the rubber-band as an interim solution until I can get an O ring at the hardware store. My dishwasher is running like new after suffering months with that awful sound thinking the whole unit was on its last leg.

Just for visual reference, here are some pictures of the docking cone and O-ring part and installation that led to correcting the grinding, rumbling noise in my dishwasher. This is a GE QuietPower which was anything but quiet prior to this repair. O-rings purchased at Home Depot for $2.45

Tried Mark's solution and it seems to be working!!! Also, since I did not have an O ring handy that fit the docking cone, I temporarily used a large rubber band which I wrapped around the cone (near the middle of the cone) several times and could feel contact to the rubber band as I moved the upper rack back into place. I would recommend testing the position of the O ring or rubber band to ensure that it makes contact with upper rack tube while still allowing the dishwasher door to close properly.

Thanks Mark,

Does anyone know the exact size of this O-Ring?

    jrc92 -

Did you get my reply? Were you able to solve your problem?

  • rwrunge Mar 28, 2011

My reply may not have posted last week so, if not, I would recommend purchasing an O ring approximately 3/4 inch in diameter and a couple of extra O rings (one slightly smaller and one slightly larger).

Ge Triton dishwasher will not drain and makes a funny noise.

Yes!! The crackling noise you hear is small pieces of food stuck spinning around the moter drain....All you have to do is find the drain hose (some are located under the sink of the kitchen) disconnect it from the draining source (not the back of the dishwasher) now run a long thin wire through the drain hose line poke around and pull in and out!! it may take a few tries but its better then a large Bill!! replace hose and hit drain button!!

GE Triton XL Dishwasher

My Triton XL soap dispenser still has a clump of soap after the cycle has finished. My glasses are left with a cloudy film, and my silverware is left marked with film on it. I have cut down on the amount of detergent, and have not overfilled. I have also tried using white vinegar as the manual states. Any suggestions? Thank you

Diswasher motor making noise during wash cycle

It could be the impeller on the motor. The impeller fits over the shaft of the motor and might have split/broken up. That funny noise is probably the shaft spinning inside the damage impeller. Fortunately the impeler is fairly inexpensive and easy to replace. I believe there are one or two parts/covers to remove that are held in by a roughly half dozen torx screws.

Sony Bravia LCD T.V.

It is most likely a fan (there are 2 to 3 of them in the set) that is making the noise. I doubt seriously that the lamp is causing a buzzing noise. The only other buzzing sound can come from the ballast wich powers the lamp.
