    laurellopez,

Tell me what is happening, what's the message? have you taken photos and you want to format the SD card or is the PC asking you to format the card?

You need to eliminate all the possibilities.
Does andifferent memory card exhibit exactly the same problem?
Sometimes memory cards develop faults.
If you can use the camera to format the card (You will lose all the pictures on the card when you do this) and take some fresh pictures, it may work. If not, buy a new card. The prices have come down so much now it makes sense to have several 1Gb cards so that you can have spares and swap them around.

Most cards work best if all the images are transferred to your computer or onto CD and then formatting the card to erase everything. If you do not do this the card may become unusable even if you have deleted individual images.

I have never had a problem until now with this. I cannot download photos from my Canon powershot to my iphoto. It says sometimes that they are unidentified files. sometimes it says no room on my hard...

your description doesn't match with camera model. would you give more detail? Thank...But I could give rough new idea that you should try...I want you to have any external memory card reader. You put your memory card in it and check it out. You should see some name of folders, try them open and compare what you recognize. If there is your picture, you can just simply download them into you computer. After complete done, you should format the memory card for real clean. you should use external memory card reader or attached in your computer---Not hooking up with camera usb terminal... Good luck with you!

Hello, my camerca is giving me a memory card error

You probably just need to format the card in the camera. This will erase it so download any pics first.

Sony Alpha 100 gives error message when attempting to take pic.

Hi! I just had the same problem with my Sony A100, when I tried two different CF cards. I was getting the same error message as reported above: "Unable to use card" then "Format?" then that format fails. Thinking the camera is broken, I checked online camera repair sites and also called Sony directly. Sony's flat rate, and that of PrecisionCamera is $228 to fix CF card failure. Then my daughter said, "the CF card in my room works fine in the camera" - and lo and behold - it does. The CF card that works is brand PQI and is marked Hi-Speed 60 2Gb. The cards that do NOT work are marked SanDisk Ultra II 1.0Gb and SanDisk 128 Mb. So my advice is, before you give up on the camera as broken, try a number of different CF cards first.

The second cause of CF failure is if someone has pushed a CF card in the wrong way. That can bend one or more of the tiny metal contact pins in the CF socket in the camera. Look carefully to see that all the pins are straight up. [I don't know how one can straighten these pins, or if the whole socket would need to be replaced...but at least you can determine the cause of the CF failure.]

Best regards - Michael

Downloading to computer

Do you have anything that can read memory cards? Try taking the card out of the camera and connecting it directly to your computer using a memory card reader or even a different camera. If you do get this to work, get all the picture off of it, and then format the card. To format the card, right click it in My Computer, and select format. It should work in your camera again after this.

If you can find software to read UDF (universal disk format) you may be able to recover your pix. Whatever you do -- DO NOT reinitialize or finalize the disk. Your existing pix will certainly be lost if you do.
