I would first try reseating (removing and putting back) the SCSI card. If it is not able to reseat (built into the motherboard) you can always try to get into the BIOS diagnostic and run a system diag on the machine.

regards,
Mike

SOURCE: Smart start utility doesn't detect controller disk

Lets have a few more details and see if we can get it solved. Is this a new server that has never been used? If used, was it used before by you successfully and you are just now having the problem on reloading? What version of SmartStart are you running? What type of drive controller is in the server? How are the drives connected to the system? By the on board controller or via controller card? Also, check the BIOS settings to see if the system is setup to boot from the controller you have in the system and there are no interupt conflicts. Kenneth

SOURCE: getting drive array problem

Even the 1st generation will have a ROM based Hard Drive Array utility which you will need to make yourself familiar with. Find out the hard ware you are dealing with, make sure it is functioning properly, and work your way to the software configuration.

SOURCE: SCSI Devices not detected when posting ML530 Server.....

Hello,

To get to the BIOS for your server, press F10 at start-up. This should get you there to verify if settings are detecting SCSI devices. If they are there, you may have to reinstall the SCSI controller drivers. Good Luck.

Server won't start HP ML350 G5

Reseat the drives, but DO NOT swap slots. Keep exact, in case of RAID configuration.

Use the Smartstart disc. It may show you the current array config.

I have a server with a Serveraid 4H controller card, set up with two Arrays. Array B has 3 72GB drives set up as RAID 5. I would like to add 2 more drives to this array. Is this possible or do I have to...

I am not familiar with your RAID controller card but as long as the controller can see two additional drives, it shouldn't be difficult to add two new drives to your exisiting RAID 5 configuration.

You will probably need to reinitialize the RAID configuration for discs to copy all the parity information so you should refer to the documentation on re-initializing the RAID.

1. turn the server on, when you see the smart array controller posting
hit f8 to enter the controller settings, here create the array (1, 5,0)
2. insert the windows cd and follow the normal installation procedure
or download the smart start cd from here for a guided installation
with SSCD just insert the cd and follow the directions

I can´t use a serial ata disk in a proliant 350

I know ATA disks are cheaper , but they don't last as long or are less reliable.

I do not recommend mixing SCSI and ATA .

Use one or the other , not both.

Do not try , unless your server is non critical.
If it is non critical , why bother with server , a PC will do as well.

Thanks
David
