To test the powe supply open the case and use one of the open plugs. Hook a volt meter up and check it is putting out the listed power on the back of the power supply. the first easiest check is look at the fan in the power supply and see if it spins when you turn the machine on

Did the service tech actually look at the computer? I don't know how anyone could make this diagnosis without doing some testing. It could be the motherboard but it could be something else too. I would first suspect the power supply. They frequently go bad. Test that.

Gateway computer 310 series wont power up when

It sounds to me like the power switch is plugged into the motherboard incorrectly. I would need to know the type of motherboard you have to get you the proper schematic for hooking up the power switch and reset switch to the board. If you have the manual to the motherboard, there should be a detailed picture showing you how it is to be hooked up. Please let me know the motherboard model for further assistance.

Good Luck,

Gateway 500xl pc will not turn on power button is lit up yellow

A LOT of Gateway computers will go into this catatonic state because of a dead battery. The battery is on the motherboard -- it looks like a metal disk about 1" in diamter. Check it or replace it. This applies to laptops too (not the actual laptop battery, the CMOS battery -- a laptop will have one on the motherboard too)

Hope this helps

No power

Just open ur P.C cabinate and look when the Power supply is on in ur mother board then there is a green light in ur Mother board ; is it on ??
If the LED is on then I hope ur mother board is ok yet.
Then I think there is some connection prob on the pushing button on the cabinate.
Check it if it is not then u have to replace ur mother board.

A month out of warranty, our Gateway FX530S broke down (Serial Number 0040289739). We called in the Geek Squad and they replaced the power source. However, less than a month later, the computer...

gateways are not that good of a pc, they are only built to last about a year (they won't tell you this of course) the best thing you can do at this time is buy extended warranty on the laptop, wait about 2 weeks and send it in for repair, it will work out much cheaper than having to replace the motherboard

My gateway 700 xl doesnt boot

Unplug the power from you 700xl and from you monitor. Try removing the cmos battery and reinstalling it. Then, plug everything back in and try restarting. If it continues to give you the yellow light, you may need to replace the CMOS battery, especially if it is more than two years old.

Another thing to consider is if your power supply is underpowered for the number of external devices you have plugged into it (i.e., cd, dvd, external hard drives, printers, pci cards, etc). Gateway installed very low powered power supplies in their 700xl desktop computers. Usually only around 250 watts maximum.

If you are replacing the power supply with another 250 watt maximum power supply, and you have a lot of external devices plugged in, you may need at least a 350 watt power supply....if your CMOS battery is not the problem.

Gateway Desktop

could be a blown capacitor on the motherboard in wich case i would suggest replacing the pc, or it could be a bad power supply, could also be overheating, or it could be a software problem. more than likley its a bad power supply or a blown cap, look at the motherboard you should see some small black cylnders, those are capacitors, if any of them seem to be bulging or dented then you have a blown cap and its time to replace either the mother board or the entire pc, its almost more cost effective to replace the whole pc though, good luck
