If you need to clean the router, distilled water baths can help... thats what all the components get before assembly. They use a LOT. I have done this to other objects with varied success proportional to my effort to acquire distilled water and cleaning and then drying internally as best as possible then using say a hair dryer to make completely dry.

My router is not in range.the lights are just flashing

the lights are flashing... uh-oh... is that the right power cord? example 5v .5A on both bottom of router and on power adapter.

if it is the right cord may just be a stupid moment I find if you hold the reset button to set a router to factory defaults then set it back up exactly the same it often fixes weird problems.

if it is the wrong cord your router may be... well... fried. logic chips in routers are very sensitive.

good luck

Keeps locking up

1.Log into router. Using either 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.1.1 in a browser window that is ( internet Explorer or Firefox)
2. Verify wireless router name( on the computer) >>> ( on/off) ( router status window)
3.Note router name you are connecting to.
4.. Check the laptop/desktop do ipconfig /all to see current IP addresses.
5. Set the laptop up in the router by WEP KEY or MAC address. This set up in the "security tab" in the router. using 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 to access through a browser.
6.Note router name you are connecting to.
7. Move the laptop about 20ft away and try to log on to the internet.
This is for all routers to set up wirelessly.
8. check for firmware update at the manufacturers site for your model router
9. cell phones, cordless phones, digital TV's, can affect the data signal from a router. Also distance from the router can be a factor. If your router is in a basement place the router to a upper floor and center it in the room.
10 check to see if you have exceeded your bandwidth allocation. check with the ISP.
11. check to see if you have an issue at the node or drop > this will require a tech to come out. If no issue found you will be charged.

Can I setup a cable modem with a router

You can if the router is wireless and you have a wireless card in your computers. If not, then you will have to upgrade the router to a wireless and get wireless cards in the computers or run a cable to the 2nd floor

Internet only works for 20 minutes after restart.

Yep. Guessing the router is older. They don't last long. Modems live forever but routers average 6-18 months. Other things are funny about this. Your router works on 2.4 ghz. Cordless phone and microwaves do too. if you have a cordless base close to the router it can knock it offline. If your router is old get a new one. MAKE SURE IT IS AN "N" SERIES AND NOT A "G" SERIES

You might try unplugging the phone from the phone port and plugging it back in several times to clean the contacts; this may be the only problem and may have happened as a coincidence, not having anything to do with the spilled drink. Also perform the "cleaning" where the wire plugs into the phone. If this still doesn't solve your problem, try another phone cord. If still no luck, you'll probably need to replace the router - these are not economically repairable. Naturally, if you see any sticky matter on the plugs, then clean them with rubbing alcohol, as well as swabbing the inside of the ports with an alcohol-soaked Q tip. It's best to have the unit powered off when you do this.

Lose DSL connection when tv is turned on.

If there is a filter on BOTH ends of the phone line that is the problem. There should only be one plugged into the wall. Take the phone line and plug it into the phone side of the filter. The end that plugs into your receiver should never have a filter on it. Also I've never heard of a receiver needing to be connected to a phone line AND a router. You usually only need one or the other but not both.

Connecting one network to another?

This is what I would do I would connect the wireless to the internet direct and allow all PC with wireless capabilities to access the net through that wireless irrespective to where I place the wireless router.  Alternative I would link the cable on on the second floor the one you use for the PC to access the net to access the the wireless it should automatic allocate IP addresses as each machine accesses the network.  The speed of that wirless is decreased as each wireless PC comes on line.
