One of your system files of your windows installation has been corrupted that makes your windows not to go through your desktop. Reinstalling your Windows Operating System will cure this. You don't have to install a fresh copy of your windows but just to repair it. Repairing your Windows installation will repair your corrupted and missing files of your previous installation. No worries to think about because your saved files in your hard drive will not be removed/deleted.

IT DOESNT MATTER WHAT SEQUENCE IF BIOS CANT FIND 1ST DEVICE IT GOES TO NEXT AN SO ON,
TRY THIS.BOOT UP GET A FAR AS YOU CAN GET THEN PRESS AND HOLD THE POWER BUTTON(ABOUT 5 SECS)
THEN REBOOT.
IF THIS DOESNT WORK BUT YOU CAN GET TO THE WINDOWS SCREEN PRESS CTL+ALT+DEL AND CHOOSE LOG OFF THEN IN NEW SCREEN SELECT LOG ON.
IF THAT DONT WORK REINSTALL OS NOT REPAIR.
WHEN YOU GET TO THE INSTALL PAGE SYSTEM SAYS OS ALREADY INSTALLED CONTINUE TO INSTALL OR REPAIR .AT THAT STAGE EITHER CARRY ON AND INSTALL FRESH COPY OR REPAIR.

if you can boot from os disk repair by all means, but there a method.when you start from boot disk it loads and states install or repair .if you choose repair at this stage it will go to a dos platform(c:/promt) and expect you to know how to repair which in most cases people dont.

so you choose install and after system diagnose it informs you that theres already a os installed ;install or repair.it is at that point that you choose repair.if you cant install from disk eg only get so far and stops.first of all restart goto setup(bios)

choose reset to default.save settings and exit.

if you still have problem could be you hd has bad sectors.let me know and we'll go from there. Also get hold of some software called spotmau (download free version) when downloaded open the files and write to a created boot disk (instructions in package)

startup with this disk and you will find with its programs any problem you may have preventing you from access windows.

if it turns out that your hd is damaged spotmau will repair it depending on how damaged.spotmau works in dos so only needs first 64k mem no sys drivers or any access to hd which is why it can do what its capable of.

Definitely a problem occurs in the booting sequence.
I'd suggest to re-install the operating system (I assume it's a Windows) one more time. Once the system is installed reboot your notebook and see if restarts properly. If so, go on CONTROL PANEL and choose to make a RESTORE POINT at that time.
If the REBOOT option fails that means your Hard Drive might be faulted or the BOOT MANAGER in Windows is not working properly.
But if the REBOOT will be just fine and if you did a RESTORE POINT I'd suggest you to be more carefully when you will start installing the third party software on your notebook. Some softwares might interfere with your Windows drivers and might modify those drivers.

HP DV4000 Series not detecting newly installed DVD±RW LightScribe

The type of CD/DVD recorder is suppose to be automatically detected by your Plug N Play portion of your BIOS. Reboot and press the "F" key combination that will bring up the boot process as opposed to the CMOS Settings. See if the correct DVD model shows up as one of your boot electives. You may be able to change it in that window. If not then reboot to BIOS and change it there.

HP Pavilion dv4000 display dies b4 it even boots

When you get to the normal/safe mode screen, select enable VGA. This will boot your computer using the standard 640 x 480 default. Once you are in windows, then you can go into the display properties and change it to a resolution that is compatible with your screen and computer.

Thanks and pelase take a moment to rate as fixya.

HP Pavillion dv4000 turns on and shuts off and turns on and shuts off -

No I work on HP's all day, it is nothing to do with the OS or the BIOS. It is a problem with the motherboard fan control, in other words the mainboard is bad even with the latest BIOS update. The CPU is getting too hot, as this happens the CPU gets damaged because the Fox board does not have a temp sensor. So periodically the voltage make kick on the cpu but for the most part the computer will never work the same. The longest I got this dv4000 to run was just under 4 hours with no apps running.
Total overhaul replace board, processor, and possibly the fan.

~Hope this answers your question.
